The qualified voters of said town shall, on the first Mon-
day in May, 1936, and every fourth year thereafter on the
first Monday in May, at such place or places as shall be
designated by the Judges of Election, between the hours of
5 o'clock P. M. and 9 o'clock P. M., elect by ballot one per-
son, as Mayor of said town, also two persons to be men-
bers of council of said town who shall serve for a term of
four years or until their successors are elected and qualified.

To be eligible for election to the office of Mayor the per-
son must be not less than thirty-five years of age, and for
the office of councilman not less than thirty years of age.
All candidates for the office of Mayor or councilman must
be the owner of real property situated in said town and
have paid in full all state, county and town taxes, with real
and personal, which are due and payable before said elec-
tion, and shall have resided in said town for at least six
months immediately preceding said election. The qualifi-
cations for voters shall be the same as prescribed for voters
for members of the General Assembly.

If the Mayor or a member of the council shall cease to
reside in said town, the office shall thereupon become va-
cant. The Mayor and members of the council shall receive
no compensation for their services, except that the Mayor
shall receive the fees hereinafter allowed. In case of
vacancy due to death, resignation, removal from town, or
otherwise, in the office of Mayor or of the Council, the re-
maining members of the Mayor and Council shall select a
person with the requisite qualifications to fill said vacancy
for the unexpired term.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency law and necessary f or
the immediate preservation of the public health and safety,
and having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported
by three-fifths of all the members elected to each of the two
Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
