amendments, to read as follows:
9. The Adjutant General shall be appointed by the Gov-
ernor by and with the advice and consent of the Senate.
He shall have a commissioned grade not above that of
Major General, and his salary shall be as stated in the an-
nual Budget. He may be appointed by the Governor as
Chief of Staff of the Governor's Staff.
An Assistant Adjutant General may be appointed by the
Governor, and his term of office shall be at the pleasure of
the Governor. He shall have a commissioned grade not
above that of Brigadier General. He may be appointed by
the Governor as Chief of Staff of the Governor's Staff. He
will perform such military duties as may be assigned him
by the Governor.
The Assistant Adjutant General may also be appointed
by the Governor as Chairman of the Maryland Veterans
Commission. He may be paid a salary, to be fixed by the
Governor, out of the appropriation made in the budget for
the administration of the Maryland Veterans Commission.
The age limitation for members of the Organized Militia
and for commissioned officers prescribed in Sections 5, 17
and 19 of Article 65 shall not apply to the Adjutant General
and Assistant Adjutant General.
The Governor may choose a Staff consisting of the Ad-
jutant General and/or the Assistant Adjutant General, and
not more than ten Aides. The Aides will be selected by the
Governor from among the Commissioned Officers of the
National Guard (active or inactive). Each of them may re-
ceive an appointment as Aide, which, however, shall not
add to the actual grade of the officer so appointed; nor shall
such officer be relieved from duty with the organization to
which he is assigned, except when actually on duty as Aide
under the orders of the Governor.
The appointment of a Chief of Staff and of Aides shall
be at the pleasure of the Governor.
The Governor, in his discretion, may by executive order
transfer any or all of the strictly administrative duties of
the Ranking Line Officer to the Adjutant General or As-
sistant Adjutant General, provided that any such trans-
fer shall not affect the control of the Ranking Line Officer
over the tactical command and training of the units and
organizations of the National Guard, or his general con-
trol of the Military Department, in all of which the Rank-
ing Line Officer shall continue to function under the direct
orders of the Governor.
