In case the injured employee refuses to undergo an oper-
ation for the cure of the said hernia, he shall be allowed
compensation for a period of seven and one-half (T1/^)
weeks, and if it be shown to the satisfactory of the Com-
mission that because of age or previous physical condition,
it is considered unsafe for the employee to undergo such
operation, such refusal may be excused by the Commis-
sion, in which event the employee shall be allowed com-
pensation for the period of actual disability resulting from
such hernia, not to exceed fifty-two (52) weeks, and in
either event such payments shall be in lieu of all benefits
for or on account of disability or death resulting or alleged
to have resulted from such injury.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1935.

CHAPTER 488.
AN ACT to authorize and provide for new general indexes
to the Land Records, Mechanics Liens and Judgments
recorded in the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court
for Anne Arundel County.
WHEREAS, The present general indexes of the Land Rec-
ords, Mechanics Liens and Judgments in the Office of the
Clerk of the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County are in
an unsatisfactory condition, whereby much inconvenience
is caused, and serious and costly mistakes are likely to
occur; and
WHEREAS, It is necessary to take immediate steps to pro-
vide said office with proper and workable general indexes.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County
shall appoint a committee of three competent persons, mem-
bers of the Bar of said Court, to select a satisfactory system
of general Land, Mechanics Lien and Judgment indexes in
the office of the Clerk of the said Court, to purchase all
books needed therefor, to contract for the making of said
indexes, to verify, in conjunction with the Clerk of said
Court, the accuracy of said indexes, when made; and to do
all things that may be necessary and proper to do in the
premises.
