of sixty but may on application each year be continued
from year to year as members of the department, on the
approval of the Mayor and City Council, until they reach
the age of sixty-five, at which age retirement becomes man-
datory. Provided, however, that the Chief of Police, the
Assistant Chief, the Lieutenant and the Sergeants may on
application each year be continued from year to year on
the approval of the Mayor and City Council without any
limitation as to age.
Every member of the Police Department retired under
the provisions of this section shall be paid a pension or re-
tirement allowance equal to one-half of the salary received
by him at the time of hire retirement, but no member of
the Department shall be retired on a pension under this
section prior to June 1, 1937.
In order to provide funds with which to pay the pension
authorized by this section, one per cent (1 %) of the regular
salary of every member of the Police Department shall be
deducted every six months by the Auditor of the City and
shall be paid into a special account to be created by the
City Treasurer, to be known as the Police Pension Fund.
The Mayor and City Council shall appropriate and pay into
said fund a similar amount every six months.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1936.

CHAPTER 96.
AN ACT to add two new sections to Article 78 of the An-
notated Code of Maryland (1935 Supplement), title
"Purchasing Bureau, " said new sections to be known as
Sections 6B and 6C and to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 6A of said Article, relating to the purchase of bitu-
minous coal by the State of Maryland and its agencies
and contracts by the State or any agency thereof for
any public work or service involving the use of bitu-
minous coal.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That two new sections be and they are hereby
added to Article 78 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
