Upon the expiration of each of said terms, the term of
office of Commissioners thereafter appointed shall be for
six years after the time of their appointment and qualifi-
cation and until their successors shall qualify. In case any
Commissioner shall be allowed to hold over until after the
expiration of his term his successor shall be appointed for
the balance of the unexpired term. Vacancies in said Com-
mission shall be filled by the Governor for the unexpired
term. Each Commissioner shall be eligible for reappoint-
ment in the discretion of the Governor. The members of
said Commission shall serve without compensation.

The Commission may adopt a seal and may appoint a
secretary and treasurer to serve during the discretion of
the Commission, and may adopt such rules and regulations
for the conduct of their meetings as the Commission or a
majority of them shall determine.

SEC. 2. The Commission shall have custody, control
and management of the property and buildings at Pikes-
ville,. Baltimore County, Maryland, now known as the
Maryland Line Confederate Soldiers Home, which prop-
erty was granted and conveyed to the State of Maryland
by the United States Government by authority of an Act
of Congress dated March 3, 1879.

SEC. 3. The Commission shall have authority to re-
store, alter, equip and furnish said buildings, and to pre-
serve, repair and maintain the same and any property that
may at any time be contained therein, as a monument to
those of the State of Maryland who died in the military
service of the United States or of the Confederate States;
and the Commission shall have authority to establish with-
in said buildings an historical museum and library, and
in their discretion, as the need shall develop, establish a
home for such destitute soldiers, who have served in the
army or navy of the United States, as the Commission may
deem worthy of admission, and may utilize said buildings
for such other public, civic or community purposes as the
Commission shall from time to time determine.

SEC. 4. The cost of repairs and maintenance of the
Buildings and property hereby placed in custody of the
Commission shall be paid from such appropriations as may
hereafter be made by the State of Maryland to the Com-
mission for such purposes, and the Commission shall also
have authority to receive private subscriptions and to ap-
