Resolved, That as one means to this end the County Commis-
sioners of the several counties of the State, the Mayor and Council
of the incorporated municipalities, including the City of Balti-
more, the Superintendents of Schools in the several counties and
in Baltimore City, and the several departments and agents of the
State Government, are hereby urged and requested to investigate
the manufactured products of the Maryland Workshop for the Blind
and to purchase them whenever possible. It is the conviction of this
House that by so doing, they will not only secure for themselves
manufactured articles of good quality, but they also will contribute
to the employment of blind persons and to continued usefulness of
a valuable State- aided institution; and be it further

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Jour-
nal of this House .and that copies thereof be sent by the Secretary
of State of Maryland to the several Boards of County Commission-
ers, the Mayor and Council of the incorporated municipalities, the
Superintendents of Schools throughout the State, and to the State
Purchasing Agent.

Which was read the first time and referred to the Committee on
Rules.

HOUSE RESOLUTION.

By Messrs. Sklar and Boone:

A Resolution memorializing Congress to authorize and finance
research of certain diseases.

WHEREAS, five major causes of death and disability due to disease
are heart disease, cancer, tuberculosis, poliomyelitis and the ravages
of common cold; and

WHEREAS, the origin and causes of these diseases have not been
completely solved by medical science and that, necessarily, treat-
ment and drugs to completely heal the scourges of these diseases are
not adequate, with resultant untold death and damage to the human
race; and

WHEREAS, it has been demonstrated that any scientific problems,
regardless of complexity and difficulty, can be solved by the recent
success of the "Manhattan Project," wherein the atom bomb was
discovered, provided that science has the necessary funds for ade-
quate research and concentration; and

WHEREAS, individuals or private industry cannot meet the burden
of proper and adequate research into the mysteries of these dis-
eases and that only an agency of the government could do so suc-
cessfully; now, therefore, be it
