levy the sum of Eight Hundred Dollars ($800. 00) annually
for the above purposes on the assessable property of said Coun-
ty. Before the County Commissioners shall be required to pay
the aforesaid sums of money, the said Commissioners shall have
the power to require the officers of said fire departments to ap-
pear before them and show to the satisfaction of said Commis-
sioners that any sums of money paid by the said Commissioners
to the said fire departments under this Act have been expended
for the purposes set forth in this Act, and also that said fire
departments are active fire fighting organizations. In the event
said fire departments hereinbefore mentioned cease to remain
active fire fighting organizations or have not used the moneys
appropriated to them for the sole purposes set forth in this
Act, then this Act shall become null and void.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1929.

CHAPTER 42.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 2
and Section 15 of Chapter 494 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of Maryland, passed at its Session of 1924, pro-
viding that the Mayor and Council of Salisbury shall pub-
lish annually a true account of its receipts, expenses and ex-
penditures in connection with the construction, maintenance
and operation of the Water and Sewer Systems of the City
of Salisbury and providing that service rates charged for
water in said City become a lien on the property chargeable
therefor and shall be collectible as other City taxes are col-
lected.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 2 and Section 15 of Chapter 494 of the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed at its Ses-
sion of 1924, entitled "An Act to authorize and empower the
Mayor and Council of Salisbury to issue bonds in an amount
not exceeding the sum of Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand
Dollars ($550, 000); to create the Salisbury Water and Sewer
Commission, and to prescribe the powers and duties thereof;
