land, liable for payment of same and also authorizing and
requiring said Commissioners to pay a certain additional
sum on account of boarding and keeping prisoners hereto-
fore committed to his custody.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by, the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this Act, the
Sheriff of Wicomico County, shall be allowed, and the Com-
missioners of Wicomico County, Maryland, shall be required
to pay, the sum of sixty cents (60c. ) a day for boarding and
keeping each prisoner committed to his custody, and the said
Sheriff is hereby required to keep a book at the jail, in which
he shall record the name of each prisoner committed to his
custody, and by what authority, the time when received and
the offense charged, and also the date of his discharge, which
book shall be open to the inspection of the County Commis-
sioners, State's Attorney and Grand Jury; should the Sheriff
neglect or refuse to keep said book or comply with any of the
duties which he is hereby required to perform, he shall be
liable to indictment and upon conviction be fined a sum not
exceeding One Hundred Dollars ($100. 00).
SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, That in addition to the
sums heretofore received by the said Sheriff for boarding and
keeping prisoners, he shall bo entitled to receive the sum of
Eight Hundred Dollars ($800. 00) as additional compensa-
tion for boarding and keeping prisoners committed to his cus-
tody within the period beginning on May 1st, 1928, and end-
ing upon the date that this. Act becomes effective, within which
period, said Sheriff has received only Thirty Cents (30c. )
per day for boarding and keeping prisoners, this sum to be
paid by the Commissioners of Wicomico County, Maryland.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That all Acts or parts
of Acts inconsistent herewith, whether general or local, are
hereby repealed to the extent of such inconsistency.
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage, it being hereby declared to be
an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation
of the public safety.
