gomery County, a jail building of modern and fire-proof con-
struction, with adequate sanitary facilities, with suitable quar-
ters for both male and female prisoners and for the housing
of the warden of the Montgomery County Jail. And the Coun-
ty Commissioners of Montgomery County are hereby further
authorized and empowered in the event that a new site for said
jail shall be acquired, to tear down and remove all or so much
of the present jail or to sell or otherwise dispose of the said
jail building and the lot upon which the same is located.

And the County Commissioners of Montgomery County are
further authorized and empowered to acquire, either by pur-
chase or condemnation proceedings, such additional land, to-
gether with the buildings thereon for the above purpose, as the
County Commissioners may deem necessary. And if the
County Commissioners are unable to agree with the owner or
owners of any land which they may desire to acquire for the
above purpose, then said County Commissioners shall and they
are hereby authorized and empowered to proceed to condemn
the same for the use of the County in the manner prescribed by
the laws of the State of Maryland.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That for the purpose of
providing money for the construction of said jail building and
for the purpose of acquiring such additional land as may be
required for the above purpose, together with the buildings
thereon, the County Commissioners of Montgomery County
are hereby authorized and empowered to issue serial coupon
bonds on the faith and credit of said County to the amount of
$50, 000 to be issued in such denominations as the County Com-
missioners may, in their discretion, determine, to be signed by
the President of the Board of County Commissioners of said
County, and by the Treasurer of said county, (provided that
the coupons for the interest thereon may be authenticated by
the engraved, lithographed or printed signature of the Presi-
dent of said Board of County Commissioners) to have the cor-
porate seal of said Board of County Commissioners of Mont-
gomery County affixed thereto, and to be exempt from all State,
county and municipal taxes. The said bonds shall have written
or printed on them a distinct reference to the Act authorizing
the issue, and shall be designated as "Montgomery County Jail
Bonds. "

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the said County
Commissioners of Montgomery County are authorized and em-
