Laws of Maryland (Revised Edition of 1915), title "City of Bal-
timore, " sub-title "Justices of the Peace and Constables, " as
said section was amended by Chapter 187 of the Acts of 1922, be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments to
read as follows:

625. It shall be the duty of the Governor, after the appoint-
ment of the Justices of the Peace provided for in Section 623, to
select from the Justices of the Peace so appointed one Justice
of the Peace who shall be known as "Presiding Justice of the
Peace of the People's Court" and four other Justices of the
Peace who shall be known as 't Associate Justices of the Peace of
the People's Court. " Said Presiding Justice of the Peace of the
People's Court shall receive from the Mayor and City Council of
Baltimore, a salary of $4, 000. 00 per annum, payable monthly,
and each of said Associate Justices of the Peace and of the
People's Court shall receive from the Mayor and City Council
of Baltimore a salary of $3, 500. 00 per annum, payable monthly,
and said Justices shall receive no other compensation or fees
whatever for the performance of any duties as Justices of the
Peace. And said Justices shall sit for trial of cases on
each day (except Sundays and legal holidays) from the
hour of 1 o'clock P. M., at such proper place in or near
the Court House in Baltimore City as may be provided by
the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore; and one or more of
said Justices, to be assigned by said Presiding Justice, shall be
on duty from 9. 30 o'clock A. M. until 12. 30 o'clock P. M. ? for
the purpose of issuing summons and performing any other du-
ties, except the trial of cases. Cases may, however, be tried at
any hour upon the joint consent of all the parties and of the
Justice.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect January 1, 1928.

CHAPTER 347.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact Section 19, of Article 51, of
the Annotated Code of the Public General Laws of Mary-
land, title "Juries, " providing the right to the State and
the accused of challenges according to the number of accused
persons on trial.
