CHAPTER 297.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 179
of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title "Allegany County, " sub-title "Justices of the Peace
and Constables, " as the same was enacted by Chapter 285
of the Acts of 1920; and to add 27 new sections thereto,
to follow Section 179, and to be designated as Sections 179-A
to 179Z-B, both inclusive; repealing all Acts or parts of
Acts inconsistent with the provision of this Act; and pro-
viding for the appointment of Justices of the Peace for
Allegany County, and reducing the number of Justices of the
Peace in Election Districts Numbers 4, 5, 6, 14, 22, 23 and
29 in Allegany County, to two Justices of the Peace, to be
known as the Peoples Court; fixing their qualifications, term
of office, manner of appointment, duties, powers, compensa-
tion, jurisdiction, rules, regulations, procedure, and all
other requirements for the establishment and functioning of
said The Peoples Court, and providing for the annual ap-
propriation by the County Commissioners for Allegany
County, and the Mayor and City Council of Cumberland in
their respective levies for the proper maintenance of said
Court.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 179 of Article 1 of the Code of Pub-
lic Local Laws of Maryland, title "Allegany County, " sub-
title, "Justices of the Peace and Constables" as the same was
enacted by Chapter 285 of the Acts of 1920, be and the same
is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments and the
following new Sections to read as follows:
CREATION OF COURT.
Section 179. There shall be appointed by the Governor, at
the session of the General As-sembly of Maryland in the year
1927, two Justices of the Peace for each Election District in
Allegany County, who shall hold office for such term as is now
or may hereafter be provided by law; except that for Election
Districts Numbers 4, 5, 6, 14, 22, 23 and 29, in said Allegany
County, there shall be appointed two Justices of the Peace and
none other; said two Justices of the Peace, to be Justices of
the Peace at Large and to be known and styled "The Peoples
Court" and to be so appointed and possess the qualifications,
jurisdiction and powers as is hereinafter provided.
