APPOINTMENT AND QUALIFICATIONS.

Section 179-A. Said two Justices of the Peace at Large
hereinbefore provided for, shall be appointed by the Governor,
subject to confirmation by the Senate of Maryland, for the
term of two years and biennially thereafter; their terms shall
begin on the first Monday in May after their appointment,
and they shall hold office until their successor or successors
are duly appointed and qualified; said two Justices shall be
residents and duly qualified voters in one of the election dis-
tricts which are now or may hereafter be within their juris-
diction; they shall be at least twenty-five years of age at the
time of their appointment, and shall be duly qualified to
practice law and shall actually have practiced law for at
least three years; they shall be men of integrity; when so
appointed they shall qualify before the Clerk of the Circuit
Court for Allegany County by subscribing and taking the
oath of office in the same manner as Justices of the Peace now
qualify, said Justices shall not during the term for which they
are appointed engage directly or indirectly in the practice of
the law; in case of vacancy, death, removal from office, resig-
nation or otherwise, the Governor shall appoint a duly qualified
person or persons to serve for the unexpired term of said
Justice or Justices; the term of office or the compensation of
said Justices shall not be diminished during the term for
which they, or either of them are appointed.

COMPENSATION.

Section 179-B. Said Justices of the Peace, shall each re-
ceive an annual salary of Thirty-six Hundred Dollars per year,
payable in monthly installments of $300. 00 each; the sum of
$250. 00 per month each shall be paid by the County Commis-
sioners for Allegany County, and the sum of $50. 00 per month
each, shall be paid by the Mayor and City Council of Cumber-
land, Md., which said salary shall be in lieu of all fees and
costs, in both civil and criminal cases, all of which said fees
and costs (including costs in motor vehicle cases) shall be paid
to the Treasurer of Allegany County, Maryland, in the same
manner as costs and fees are paid to the County Treasurer of
Allegany County by the City Magistrate for Cumberland, Md,

CRIMINAL AND PEACE JURISDICTION.

Section 179-C. Said Justices of the Peace shall have juris-
diction to try and determine all cases or causes involving any
