CHAPTER 156.

AN ACT to assent to the act of Congress passed at the second
session of the sixty-eighth Congress approved February 24,
1925, known as the Purnell Act, H. R. 157, entitled "An
Act to authorize the more complete endowment of Agricul-
tural Experiment Stations, and/or other purposes. "

WHEREAS, by an act of Congress passed at the second ses-
sion of the sixty-eighth Congress of the United States of America,
the Purnell act H. R. 157 entitled "An Act to Authorize the
more complete endowment of Agricultural Experiment Stations,
and for other purposes", approved February 24, 1925, and
whereas section 2 of said act of the second session of the
sixty-eighth Congress provides that before funds are made
available under the said act shall be paid to any State, such
State shall give its legislative assent to the purposes of said
grants; and

WHEREAS, the University of Maryland Agricultural Exper-
iment Station, a department of the University of Maryland, is
the only institution in Maryland established under the provi-
sions of the act of Congress approved July 2nd, eighteen hun-
dred and sixty-two and of the act of Congress approved March
2nd, eighteen hundred and eighty-seven supplementary thereto;
now, therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the assent of the State of Maryland be and the same
is hereby given to the purposes of the Grant made by said
Act H. R. 157 of the second session of the sixty-eighth Con-
gress and that the said University of Maryland Agricultural
Experiment Station, a department of the University of Mary-
land be and the same is hereby designated as the institution en-
titled to receive the moneys appropriated for Maryland and
that the Treasurer of the said institution be and he is hereby
designated as the proper person to receive the said appropria-
tions.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the assent of the State
of Maryland to the grants of money for the purposes, upon the
terms and in accordance with the conditions and provisions
contained in the said act, is hereby signified and expressed and
the Secretary of State is hereby directed to transmit a certi-
fied copy of this act to the Treasurer of the United States
and to the Secretary of Agriculture of the United States.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this act shall take
effect on the 1st day of June, 1927
