1656 JOINT RESOLUTIONS.

Maryland at its session of 1922, appointed a Commission to
take up with the authorities of Virginia the proposition of pur-
chasing two bridges across the Potomac River, one at Point of
Rocks and one at Brunswick; and

WHEREAS, Said Commission has submitted its report, to the
General Assembly of 1924; and

WHEREAS, As will fully appear from said report, said Com-
mission has, after valuing said bridges, secured an option for
their purchase at any time within five years upon the payment
of $100,000 for each bridge, and has reached the conclusion
that both bridges should be purchased because of the need of
both as free bridges to stimulate intercourse between this State
and the State of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Said Commission recommends that said bridges
be purchased only on condition that one-half of the cost thereof
be borne by the State of Virginia, and that Maryland's one-
half should not be expended prior to the year 1929; now, there-
fore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
State Roads Commission be, and it is hereby authorized and
empowered, acting for and on behalf of the State of Maryland,
to join with the proper authorities acting for and on behalf
of the State of Virginia in a contract for the purchase of said
bridges described in the preamble of this Joint Resolution at
not more than the price therein named; provided said contract
shall contain a covenant that the purchase price of said bridges,
as well as the repair and annual maintenance thereof, shall be
borne equally by this State and the State of Virginia; and pro-
vided further that the funds necessary to discharge Maryland's
obligation under said contract shall not be expended prior to
the year 1929.

Be it further resolved., That this Joint Resolution shall super-
sede Joint Resolution No. 26, adopted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, at its Session of 1924.
