to and from penal institutions and places of confinement in the
State of Maryland, and no further sum or sums, whatsoever.

The County Commissioners shall furnish the Sheriff with
the necessary stationery, books and office supplies for the proper
operation of his office, and the County Commissioners are
further authorized and directed to levy at the rate of $400 a
year for the term of said sheriff, the total of which may be
furnished the Sheriff when his term commences or when the
County Commissioners see fit, for the purchase of an automo-
bile to be used by the Sheriff or his Deputy for the general
public work of that office, which automobile is to be main-
tained by the Sheriff without any other cost to the County
other than the $600 annual allowance above referred to.

Section 533-A. He shall collect all fines, costs, fees and
other charges arising out of both criminal and civil cases to
which he may be entitled by law, and exercise all powers con-
ferred upon him by law to enforce the collection of the same,
and shall at the end of each month during his term of office,
make an itemized report under oath of the same to the County
Commissioners of Montgomery County in such form as said
Commissioners may direct, and pay over the same to the
County Commissioners for the use of said County, and when-
ever any sheriff shall retire from office leaving uncollected any
monies lawfully payable to him as aforesaid, it shall be the
duty of his successor to collect and pay over the same; and it
shall be the duty of the sheriff to keep in his oifice in a proper
book for the purpose an official record of the monies collected
and to be collected, which book immediately after the expira-
tion of his term of office, shall be delivered to the County
Commissioners.

Section 533-B. That the Sheriff of Montgomery County is
hereby authorized and required to appoint at least two deputy
sheriffs for said county, who shall provide automobiles or motor-
cycles for their own use in performing their duties, and shall
be paid by the County Commissioners, each of said Deputy
Sheriffs shall receive the sum of Twenty-one Hundred
Dollars per annum, payable in monthly installments of One
Hundred and Seventy-five Dollars, and in addition each
of the two aforesaid deputy sheriffs shall be paid, by the
County Commissioners an annual sum of Six Hundred Dol-
lars in monthly installments of Fifty Dollars, which sum or
sums shall be in lieu of all expenses for travelling, transporta-
