the faith and credit of said Town, one modern pumper fire en-
gine and equipment, at a price not to exceed Fifteen Thou-
sand Dollars, and to make, execute and deliver such note or
notes or other evidence of indebtedness as. may be required
to properly acknowledge and pay said debt, which shall bear
interest at not to exceed six per centum per annum.

SEC. 2. In order to meet the indebtedness incurred under
the foregoing section, the Mayor and Common Council shall
levy annually a tax sufficient to pay off and discharge said
debt within four years, said tax to be levied and collected as
other town taxes, and to be shown upon tax bills separately
in a column provided for the purpose.

SEC. 3. The Mayor and Common Council is also empow-
ered and authorized hereby to levy and set aside from the gen-
eral tax levy each year, in addition to the amount authorized to
be set aside under Chapter 238 of the Laws of Maryland, 1908,
a further sum of five cents on the hundred dollars, making a
total of ten cents on the hundred dollars in the aggregate, for
the maintenance, operation and care of the Fire Department of
said Town.

SEC. 4. This Act shall not become effective unless and
until it shall be submitted to the qualified voters living within
the limits of said Town of Hyattsville, as the same exists at
the time of submission, and accepted by a majority of said
voters. For such purpose a referendum shall be held by the
Mayor and Common Council at an election to be fixed by it
not later than the first regular election in May, 1928. Said
election shall be conducted under the provisions of existing
law for the election of town officers, and the manner of sub-
mission of the question to the voters shall be that on the ballots
at such election there shall be printed the words "For Pumper
and setting aside an additional five cents on the hundred
dollars for maintenance and operation of Fire Department,"
with a blank square opposite at the right, and the words
"Against Pumper and setting aside an additional five cents
on the hundred dollars for maintenance and operation of
Fire Department," with a blank square opposite at the right,
and all qualified voters desiring to vote for the provisions of
this Act shall place a cross mark (X) in the square opposite
the words "For Pumper and setting aside an additional five
cents on the hundred dollars for maintenance and operation
