1212 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 585

SECTION 1, Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 180 and 185 of Article 21 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Talbot County, " sub-
title "St. Michaels" be and the same are hereby repealed and
re-enacted with amendments so as to read as follows:

SEC. 180. Every commissioner, before entering upon the
duties of his office, shall take an oath before some justice of
the peace that he will diligently and faithfully, according to
the best of his judgment, perform the duties of commissioner
of the said town, without favor, partiality or prejudice, and
a certificate of such qualification shall be returned by the justice
to the commissioners, to be filed and recorded among the pro-
ceedings; the said commissioners shall meet at some public
place in said town, as shall be previously determined upon, on
the first Tuesday of every month after their respective elec-
tion, and as much oftener by adjournment as they shall judge
necessary; at their first meeting after election, they shall elect
one of their number President; they shall appoint and
qualify a town clerk, who shall keep and record all their
proceedings in a well bound book, to be provided by them for
that purpose, which shall be subject to the inspection of all
persons interested, and who shall act as secretary and treas-
urer of the commissioners of St. Michaels and shall perform
such other duties as may be required; they shall also, at their
first meeting, or as soon thereafter as possible, appoint a bail-
iff for said town from the qualified voters of said town. All
moneys of the commissioners of St. Michaels shall be deposited
in some bank designated by said commissioners and shall be
disbursed only upon check signed by the town clerk, as treas-
urer, and countersigned by the President or one of the com-
missioners.

SEC. 185. Whenever a tax shall be levied the town clerk
shall collect said tax and shall be paid such additional compen-
sation as said commissioners may determine, who, shall give
bond to the said commissioners, with at least two good sureties
approved by them, in double the sum to be collected, upon con-
dition that said town clerk do and shall well and faithfully
collect the taxes imposed by the commissioners on property in
the town of St. Michaels, and perform the several other duties
required of him by law and the ordinances, orders and directions
of said commissioners, and account to the said commis-
sioners, and pay over the same to the said commissioners, or
their order, as collected, the whole of said tax to be collected
within five months from his receipt of the assessment list, then
the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full
force and virtue in law.
