the Eastern Branch, the Eastern Arm thereof, and thence with
said Branch to the beginning.

SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety, and being
passed upon a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of all
of the members elected to each of the two Houses of the General
Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage.

CHAPTER 172.

AN ACT to repeal Sections 14 and 16 of the Charter of the town
of Lonaconing, Section 14 having been enacted by Chapter
217 of the Acts of 1912 and relating to salaries of officers,
and (Section 16 having been enacted by Chapter 425 of the
Acts of 1892 and relating to the tax rate and re-enacting the
same with amendments.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 14 and 16 of the Charter of the town of
Lonaconing, said Section 14 having been enacted by Chapter
217 of the Acts of 1912 and relating to the salaries of officers
and Section 16 having been enacted by Chapter 425 of the
Acts of 1892 and relating to the tax rate, be and the same are
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments so as to read
as follows:

Section 16. That they may from time to time cause an
assessment to be made of all the property, real and personal,
in the town by three persons appointed by them and may levy
a tax thereon for general purposes, not exceeding in any one
year thirty-five cents on each one hundred dollars of assess-
able property.

Section 14. That they may allow their bailiffs and police
such reasonable compensation for their services as they may
think proper and the clerk shall receive the sum of three hun-
dred dollars per year as salary, and the Treasurer shall receive
annually a salary of fifty dollars, and the Mayor shall receive
annually a salary of one hundred dollars and each councilman
the sum of two dollars for each meeting of the council at which
