his attendance is recorded upon the minutes, provided such
compensation shall not be paid for more than twenty such
meetings in each year.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act be an emergency
law and necessary for the immediate preservation of the public
safety, and being passed upon a yea and nay vote supported by
three-fifths of all the members elected to each branch of the
General Assembly the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage.

CHAPTER 173.
AN ACT to repeal Chapter 93 of the Acts of Assembly of
1920, providing for the payment of the employees of the
Circuit Court of Allegany County, who are engaged under
the direction of the Circuit Court in the Court House, and
to re-enact the same with amendments.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Chapter 93 of the Acts of Assembly of 1920, pro-
viding for the payment of the employees of the Circuit Court
of Allegany County, who are engaged under the direction of
the Circuit Court in the Court House, be and the same is
hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
That the employees engaged on duty in the Court House
in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland, employed in the
capacity of messengers to the Court and Bar or as bailiffs to
the Grand and Petit Juries, or as court criers, or in any other
capacity in which they may be employed by the Judges of the
Court of Allegany County, shall be entitled to receive as
compensation for their employment the sum of four dollars
for each and every court day or fraction thereof in which they
are so employed, and the County Commissioners of Allegany
County shall allow and pay the same from the funds of Alle-
gany County, Maryland, which are or may be provided for the
expenses of conducting the Circuit Court of Allegany County,
Maryland.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the first day of June. 1924.
