SALARY OF CLERK AND TREASURER.

184A13. And the Mayor and Council shall provide such
compensation for the Clerk and Treasurer as they may think
proper, provided, said compensation shall not exceed twenty-five
dollars each per annum. And the Mayor and Council shall
provide compensation for the Bailiff of said town not exceeding
forty dollars per month.

TAX COLLECTOR.

184A18. The Tax Collector shall before entering upon his
duties take the same oath as the members of the Council, and
execute a bond for the faithful performance of his duties in
some responsible Maryland Bonding Corporation, with condi-
tion and amount such as the Council may by ordinance pre-
scribe. He shall be subject to the orders of the Mayor and
Council; shall collect all taxes and other claims and assessments
that may be due the town, and shall pay over and account for
the same at such time and in such manner as may be prescribed
by order of the Council. He shall receive a commission not
exceeding five per cent., upon the money collected by him, when
collected as the Council may determine.

BAILIFF.

184A23. The Bailiff shall before entering upon his duties
take the same oath as the members of the Council. He shall
perform the police duties of the town and is clothed with the
powers of a. Constable under the general law, and he shall be
subject to the orders of the Mayor and Council, and shall col-
lect all fines, for the violation of the town ordinances, and shall
pay over and account for the same at such time and in such
manner as may be prescribed by the orders of the council.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall be
submitted to the qualified voters of the town of Midland at the
town election to be held in Midland next after this act has gone
into effect, and that at said election the question of making
the said amendments to. the Charter of said town shall be sub-
mitted to the qualified voters of said town and that on the
ballots provided by the Mayor and Councilmen of Midland at
said election there shall be provided the words "For Amend-
ments to Charter" and "Against Amendments to Charter, " with
the square after said words in each ease for the X mark of the
voter and the voter may vote therein either by an X mark
after his choice or by running the pen or pencil through the one
