person or persons to be paid a greater amount than one dollar
and a quarter per day without first obtaining the written con-
sent of the County Commissioners. He shall have charge and
control of all teams, carts, wagons and other machinery and
implements which may be purchased by the County Commis-
sioners for the use of said roads, and of any conveyance for
said engineer which the County Commissioners, in their discre-
tion, may at any time purchase or acquire. He shall inspect
and pass upon all material purchased by the County Commis-
sioners to be used on the roads and bridges. He shall not work
out or expend on the roads and bridges of said county a greater
amount in any one fiscal year than the amount levied by the
County Commissioners for the purpose without obtaining the
permission in writing of said County Commissioners. He shall
appear before the County Commissioners at their first meeting
in each and every month and make a statement to them of the
work done and money expended. He shall examine and certify
to the correctness of all bills and accounts for any work done
or materials furnished on any of the public roads or bridges in
Queen Anne's County, before the same shall be paid by the
County Commissioners; and said County Commissioners shall
make no payment, until such accounts have been certified by
said engineer. He shall make out annually in writing, a de-
tailed report to the County Commissioners of all work done on
the county roads and bridges for the year, together with the
names of all persons working on said roads and bridges, and
the amount to which each person is entitled for such work, and
which he has certified as correct, which report shall be made on
or before the fifteenth day of June for the year ending on the
thirty-first day of the preceding May; and in the making of
said report he shall be allowed the services of a stenographer
and typewriter, to be paid by the County Commissioners a sum
not to exceed twenty-five dollars for his services. The said
County Road Engineer shall not be interested directly or indi
rectly in any firm or corporation from which anything shall be
purchased for the use of said roads and bridges, or receive any
commissions on said purchase.
SEC. 230F. The County Road Engineer may appoint by and
with the advice and consent of the Board of County Commis-
sioners district road supervisors, but not more than one super-
visor in any election district of Queen Anne's County, who
shall be paid such wages or salary as the County Commission-
ers may prescribe: and it shall be the duty of said district
