road supervisor to take charge of and manage the work on the
public roads and bridges in the district for which he is ap-
pointed, subject to the control and direction of the County
Road Engineer, and he shall perform such other duties as the
County Road Engineer may prescribe, and may be removed
at any time by the said County Road Engineer.
230H. Whenever any person or persons shall desire to im-
prove any public road in said county to any extent beyond
that contemplated by the County Road Engineer, he or they
may make application to the County Commissioners by petition,
setting forth the location of the road to be improved, the ex-
tent and character of the improvement, and probable cost there-
of; and the said County Commissioners shall thereupon order
the County Road Engineer to examine the location and pur-
pose set forth in the petition; and if he shall be of the opinion
that the public interest will be promoted thereby, he shall re-
port his determination to the County Commissioners, setting
forth his reasons for such determination, and an estimate of the
costs of such improvement; and if the County Commissioners
shall approve the report of the said County Road Engineer,
they shall direct the expenditure of any amount, not to ex-
ceed one-half the total of said estimate, to be paid out of the
road levy or of other moneys belonging to the county; provided,
that the petitioners for such improvements shall first pay in-
to the treasury of the county an amount not less than one-
half of said estimate; all of said money to be expended under
the direction of the County Road Engineer and the Board of
County Commissioners.
230J. It shall be the duty of the County Commissioners of
Queen Anne's County, whenever the office of County Road En-
gineer shall become vacant by death, resignation or removal
from office, to appoint, within sixty days from the date of such
vacancy, some person in the same manner and with the same
qualifications as prescribed in Section 230C of this Act to fill
said office of County Road Engineer for the residue of the
period of four years for which the person so dying or resigning
or so removed from office was appointed.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1924.
