duct of said association and conducive to its interest, and not
in conflict with the Charter or By-Laws of the Association.
SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the 1st day of June, 1924.

CHAPTER 498.
AN ACT to amend the Charter of the town of Brentwood,
Prince George's County. Maryland, as enacted by Chapter
153 of the Act of the General Assembly of Maryland of
1922 by amending Sections 6, 7, 12, 17 and 21 providing
for the filling of vacancies, registration of voters, increasing
the police powers of the Major and Council, creating a sep-
arate lighting fund, the appointment of town assessors and
defining the manner of enforcing payment of delinquent
taxes, and the submission of these amendments to the quali-
fied voters of Brentwood, Maryland, for their approval. Sec-
tion 18 is further amended by authorizing the Mayor and
Council to borrow money on the credit of the town and issue
certificates of indebtedness for the improvement of. streets,
alleys, and the construction of sidewalks, gutters and road-
bed, providing for such work to be done either on contract
or under direct supervision of the Mayor and Council, and
the granting of franchises to public service corporations for
the use of the streets, and for other purposes, by the addi-
tion of Sub-sections 18A, 18B, 18C, 18D and 18E.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 6 of the Public Local Laws of the State of
Maryland, entitled an Act to incorporate the town of Brent-
wood as enacted by the Acts of the General Assembly of 1922,
Chapter No. 153, specifying the manner of filling vacancies in
elective offices, be and the same is hereby repealed and re-en-
acted, with amendments, so as to read as follows:
6. And be it further enacted, That the Mayor and Town
Council shall meet in some convenient place in said town at
least twice in each month for the discharge of their duties.
The majority shall form a quorum for the transaction of busi-
ness; and upon each action taken the yea and nay vote of each
Councilman and Mayor shall be recorded opposite his name.
The Mayor and Council shall pass rules and regulations con-
