as compensation the sum of Five Dollars ($5. 00) per day, and
also be paid a sum not exceeding Two Dollars and Fifty Cents
($2. 50) per day additional toward their actual traveling ex-
penses in making said assessments; and
WHEREAS, the said County Commissioners were later advised
that they were without authority to make the said additional
payment for traveling expenses unless supplied with this author-
ity by a subsequent act of the General Assembly of Maryland;
therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County
be, and they are, hereby authorized and empowered to pay a
sum not exceeding Two Dollars and Fifty Cents ($2. 50) per
day each to the persons appointed by said County Commission-
ers as assessors of property in the respective Districts of said
County to cover the item of their actual traveling expenses in
the performance of their duties as said assessors; provided, that
said assessors duly rendered the said services and incurred
traveling expenses in the said connection; and provided, fur-
ther, that the validity of said claims be ascertained by said
County Commissioners before making any of said payments
for traveling expenses.

CHAPTER 402.
AN ACT authorizing and empowering the Police Commissioner
of Baltimore City to reinstate Benjamin P. Pumphrey as a
Patrolman on the Police force of Baltimore City.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Police Commissioner of Baltimore City be and
he is hereby authorized and empowered to reinstate Benjamin
F. Pumphrey as a patrolman on the Police Force of Baltimore
City, of the same rank as that held by him upon his resignation
from the Force on or about March 20, 1919.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect on June 1st, 1924.
