Court 1729 pounds of tobacco of the goods and chattles of William Murphy then and there being found then and there feloniously did Steal take and bear away Contrary to the peace of the said Lord propry the good rule and government and aga.st the form of the Act of Assembly in Such Case lately made and provided &c.a Tfrancis Cler. pac. On the back of the Same Indictm.t was Endorsed Billa Vera Tho.s Hynson foreman And the afd John Haslet in his proper pson Cometh and Saith that he is in no Sort guilty of the pmises above upon him imposed as by the afd Indictment it is alledged and thereof he putteth himself upon the Country John Haslet in p.a ppson And he who followeth for the Lord prop.ry in like manner Saith he is Guilty T ffrancis p L.d pro.ry Thereupon Command was given to the Sherf: of Kent County that he immediately Cause to Come here twelve &c.a by whome &c.a who neither &c.a to Recognize &c.a because as well &c.a of which Said pcept the Said Sherf to wit Joseph Young Gent now here at this ^Court^ to wit the Eighteenth day of Novemb.r Anno Dom one thousand Seven hundred twenty and ^Nine^ return that he hath here ready twelve &c.a as by his pcept he was Commanded and now here afterwards to wit the day & year last mentioned Came again the afd John Haslet as the Right Hon.ble the L.d prop.ry by Tench Francis Clerk of the Indictm.t of this Court and the Jurrors of that Jury being impanelled ^&^ Called likewise Came to wit William Woodland Charles Smith Thomas Bordley Edward Rogers jun.r Morgan Hurt William Dean John Macay John Clayton Josep: Hull John Brow^n^ing Benjamin R^ic^aud Samuel Waltis who being duely Elected tryed and Sworn to Say the truth in the premises upon their Oath doe Say John Haslet is guilty of Stealing the leather pouch Indited And by William Woodland their foreman all So Say Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here Viz.t att the Court House in the Town of Chester in s.d County on third tuesday in Novem.r being the Eighteenth day of Said Month Anno Domini One Thousand Seven hundred and twenty Nine That the afd John Haslet Stand in the pillory for the Space of Quater of a hour and that afterwards he Receive at the publick whipping post ^eleven^ Lashes well Laid on his bair back till the blood appears as a punishment for her afd Crime of Stealing the |
