485 Kent County fs.t The Jurors for the Right Honourable the Lord proprietarie that now is for the body of Kent County afd upon their oath Do present that Lawrence Neale late of Shrewsbury Parish in the County afd Labourer the tenth day of Aprill in the Year of our Lord God Seventeen hundred and thirty three at the Parish afd in the County afd within the Jurisdicion of this Court did Commit fornication with a Certain Jane Flanagan and of her body then and there had Carnal Knowledge and a bastard Child on the body of her the Same Jane then and there did beget to the high displeasure of Almight God to the evil Example of all others in Such case offending Contrary to the peace of the Said Lord proprietarie that now is his good rule and Government and against the Form of the Act of Assembly in Such case lately made and provided &c.a T francis Test Jane Flanagan On the back of the Same was endorsed as foll. true bill by me Rob.t Dunn foreman And now here at this Court at the Court House in the Town of Chester in Said County on the third tuesday in March being the nineteenth day of Said Month Anno Dom. One Thousand Seven hundred and thirty three Came ^The Lord prop.ry by Tenchlin Francis his attry and^ the afd Lawrence Neale and in his proper person appeared And his Ldships by his att.ry afd prayed the afd Lawrence might to the Indictment afd Answer And the afd Lawrence Neale in his proper person appeared and Saith that he Cannot gainsay the Indictment afd So as afd against him brought nor Can he Say but that he is guilty of the fornication above upon him Imposed as by the afd Indictment it is alledged and thereupon Submitts to the Court Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here to wit the Same day and year last mentioned That the afd Lawrence Neale be find the Sum of thirty Shillings Current money as a fine for Committing the offence of fornication afd in form afd Confest And also pay the Sum of Tobacco Costs Accrueing on the premisses afd to the officers of this Court Ordered by this Court that John Gresham Gent. Sherrif of Said County who being present in Court keep the afd Lawrence Neale in Safe Custody untill the fees afd Shall be paid Thereupon is Committed Ordered by this Court that the same John Gresham being present in Court keep the afd Lawrence in Safe Custody untill he Shall give Security with two Suretys to keep the County harmless from any charge that may accrue due anyways chargeable to the County Thereupon Lawrence Neale of Kent County Planter and Acknowledges himself indebted to the Right Hon.rble the Lord prop.ry in the Sum of five Thousand pds of Tobacco to be made and Leveyed on his body goods and Chattles Lands and Tenements to the use of his Said Lordship his heirs and Successors Conditionally that if the afd Lawrence Shall not keep the County harmless and Indemnified from any charge that may accrue by means of the Child that was delivered to Jane Flanagan of which he Confest to be the begitter and wherewith he acknowledges himself Content Also |
