    Kent County fs.t  The Jurors for the Right Honourable the Lord proprietary for the Body of Kent
County afd upon their Oath Do present that James Smith Jun.r of S.t Pauls Parish in the County
afd Planter the Son of James Smith Tanner the tenth day of August Anno Domini Seventeen
hundred and thirty two at the parish afd in the County afd within the Jurisdicion of this COurt did
Commit fornication with Sarah Lewis and then and there did begett a Bastard Child on the
Body of the Same Sarah to the high Displeasure of Almighty God to the Evil Example of
all others in Such case offending Contrary to the peace of the Said Lord proprietary his
good Rule and Government and against the Act of Assembly in Such case made and provided
Test Sarah Lewis                                                                            T francis Cler. pac.
    On the back preceding bill was endorsed as foll. viz.t True Bill p Simon Wilmer foreman

    And now here comes the afd James Smith jun.r and appears  And Saith that he Cannot
gainsay the Indictment afd So as afd against brought nor but that he is guilty of the fornication
above upon him imposed as by the afd Indictment is alledged and thereupon Submits to
the Court    Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here to wit at Kent County at the
Court House in the Town of Chester in Said County on the third tuesday in November being the twentyeth
day of Said Month Anno Dom. One Thousand Seven hundred and Thirty three That the afd James
Smith jun.r be find the Sum of thirty Shillings Current money for the use of our Said
County according to Act of Assembly &c.a for Committing the offence afd in form afd Confest and
also it is Considered by the Justices here That the afd James Smith pay the Sum of two hundred
Seventy Eight pounds of Tobacco costs accrueing on the premisses afd to the officers of this
Court

    Ordered that the fine be paid Immediately And Thereupon afterwards came
into Court John Gresham Gentl. Sherrif of Kent County planter Tanner and present in
Court in his proper person cometh and Acknowledged himself Indebted to the officers of this
Court the fees Accrueing on the premisses afd to the officers of this Court against his
afd Son        And thereupon the Same James Smith jun.r is therefrom discharged
&c.a

Command was given on the twenty fourth day of August in the
nineth Year of his Lord Ship Dominion &c.a  Anno Domini One
Thousand Seven hundred and thirty three to the Sherriff of Kent
County That he Should take John Howel into late of S.t Pauls Parish
in the Country afsd Cooper if he Should be found in his bailiwick and
him Safe keep So that he have his body before the Justices of our next County Court to be
held at our Court house in the Town of Chester in Said County on the third tuesday in November then
next ensueing to Answer unto a Certain Indictment for Commiting fornication with a Certain Rachel
Dowlin and begetting a bastard Child &c.a  And that the Same Sherriff know at the time afd the
afd to wit &c.a                    Att which Said third tuesday in November being the twentieth day of
Said Month Anno Dom. One Thousand Seven hundred and thirty three Came John Gresham
Gentl. Sherriff of Said County and made return to the Court here thereof endorsed as foll.
viz.t Cepi Corpus p Jn.o Gresham Sherff
