Rosemond Barnes
 Kent County fs  The Jurors for the Right honourable
the Lord prop.ry that now is for Kent County afd upon
their Oath do present that Rosemond Barnes late
of S.t Pauls Parish in the County afd Spinster the tenth day of June Anno
Domini Seventeen hundred thirty and one at the parish afd in the County
afd within the Jurisdicion of this Court did Committ fornication with a person
to the Jurors afd unknown and did permit the Same unknown person then
and there to have Carnal knowledge of her body and to beget then and
there to have Carnal knowledge of her body and to beget then and
there a bastard child on the body of her the Same Rosemond to the
high displeasure of Almighty God to the evil Example of all others in
Such case offending contrary to the peace of the Said Lord prop.ry that now is his
good rule and government and against the form of the Act of Assembly in
that case made and provided

On the back of the Same Indictment was endorst viz.t A true bill p Edw.d Worrell
                                                                                                    foreman

    And the afd Rosemond Barnes cometh and in her proper person and
Saith that She Cannot gainsay the Indictment afd So as afd against her
brought nor can She Say but that She is guilty of the premisses
above by the afd Indictment Sett forth and Thereupon Submits to the
Court    Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here to wit at a Court
held for Kent County at the Court House in the Town of Chester in Said Coty
on the third tuesday in June being the twentyeth day of Said Month
Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred and thirty one  That the afd Rosemond
Barnes Receive on her bare back five Lashes well laid on tell the
Blood Appear and then to as a punishment for Committing the
fornication afd as afd Confest Also it is Considered that the afd
Rosemond pay the Sume of three hundred thirty Eight pounds
of Tobacco costs and Charges accrued on the premisses afd to the
officers of this Court

    It is also Considered by the Court here at this day to wit the Same
day last mentioned That the Sherf of Kent County take the afd Rosemond
Barnes into his Custody and Execute the Punishment in the Judgment afd
Specified and afterwards to bring her into Court againe of which precept
to wit Joseph Young Gent high Sherf of Kent County makes return
on the day and Year last Said that he hath Executed the punishment
in the Judgment afd And also hath here the Said Rosemond
Barnes before the Court
