278                                        March Court 1731

She is guilty of the premisses above upon her imposed as by the afd Indictment
it is alledged  And thereupon Submits to the Court            Therefore it is
Considered by the Justices here to wit at a Court held for Kent County at the
Court House in the Town of Chester in Said County on the third tuesday in March
being the twenty first day of Said Month Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred and
thirty one  That the afd Elizabeth Buly pay the Sum of thirty Shillings Current
money of the province afd as a fine for Committing the fornication afd in
form afd Confest  And also it is Considered by the Same Court here
That the afd Elizabeth Buly pay the Sum of one hundred and fifty ^Eight^ pounds
of Tobacco cost accrueing on the premisses afd to the officers of this Court
Ordered by the Court here that Security be gave for the fine and fees afd

    Thereupon Peter Cole of the afd County acknowledges here in Court
that he will pay the fine afd & the fees also for the afd Elizabeth Buly

Lord prop.ry that now is for Kent County afd upon their Oath
do present that Elizabeth Carr late of S.t Pauls Parish in the
County afd Spinster the tenth day of June Anno Domini Seventeen hundred thirty and
one at the Parish afd in the County afd within the Jurisdicion of this Court did
Committ fornication with a person to the Jurors afd unknown and did permit the
Same unknown person then and there to have Carnal knowledge of her body and to
beget then and there a bastard child on the body of her the Same Elizabeth to the
high displeasure of Almighty God to the Evil Example of all others in Such case
offending contrary to the peace of the Said Lord prop.ry his good rule and Governm.t
and against the form of the Act of Assembly in Such case made and provided
Test James Ringgold On the back of the afd Indictment was endorsed as foll. viz.t
A true bill p Sam.l Wickes foreman

    And the afd Elizabeth Carr in her proper person comes and Saith that She cannot
gainsay the Indictment afd So as afd against her brought nor but that She
is guilty of the premisses above upon her imposed as by the afd Indictm.t
it is alledged and thereupon Submits to the Court         Therefore it is Considered
by the Justices here to wit at a Court held for Kent County at the Court House
in the Town of Chester in Said County on the third tuesday in March being the twenty
first day of Said Month Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred and thirty one That the
afd Elizabeth Carr Receive on her bare back Nine Lashes on her back well laid
on tell the blood appear as a punishment for Committing the fornication afd in form
afd Confest and also it is Considered by the Same Court afd the Same day afd
that the afd Elizabeth Carr pay the Sum of ___________________________
