255 And thereupon the following Act was framed viz.t Kent County fs the Jurors for the right honourable the Lord prop.ry that now is for the body of Kent County afd upon their Oath do present that Richard Gresham late of S.t Pauls Parish in the County afd Gent the tenth day of October Anno Domini Seventeen hundred thirty & one at the Parish afd in the County afd within the Jurisdicion of this Court in and upon Joseph Young Gent in the peace of God and of the Said Lord prop.ry then and there being with force and Arms an assault did make and him the Said Joseph then and there did beat wound and Evilly treat So that of his life it was much despaired and other harms to him then and there did to the dreat damage of the Said Joseph and against the peace of the Same Lord prop.ry his good rule and dignity &c.a Which bill was endorst A true Bill Sam.l Wickes foreman And the afd Richard being called appears and in his proper person Saith that he Cannot gainsay the Indictment afd So as afd against him brought nor but that he is guilty of the premisses above upon him imposed as by the afd Indictment it is alledged And thereupon Submits to the Court And M.r Joseph Young is ordered to be Sworn to relate the Same who being Sworn declared the Occation to the Court Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here to wit at a Court held for Kent County at the Court House in the Town of Chester in Said County on the third tuesday in November being the Sixteenth day of Said Month Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred and thirty one That the afd Richard Gresham pay the Sum of Seven hundred pounds of Tobacco as a fine to the Use of his Said Lordship &c.a as a fine for Commiting the assault afd in form afd Confest and also the Sum of One hundred and Eighty four pounds of Tobacco costs accrueing on the premisses afd to the officers of this Court Jam.s Smith Clk Ordered by the Court here that you enter into Recognizance for your appearance to next Court and good behav.r &c.a Thereupon The Same Richard in his proper person comes and acknowledges himself Indebted to the Right Hon.rble the Lord prop.ry in the Sum of ten pounds Sterling to be paid to his Said Lord Ship his heirs and Successors to be made and Leveyed on his body goods and Chattles Lands and Tenements Conditionally That if the Same Richard Gresham Shall not make his personall appearance at the next Court to be held for said County on the third tuesday in March next ensuing and in the mean time he is to be of good behaviour wherewith he acknowledges himself to be Content |
