        Mess.rs George Wilson Charles Hynson & Nath.l Rogers Sworn for his
        Lordship ag.t the afd W.m Pearce  And the Grand Jury returns
a presentment against William Pearce of the County of Kent for
an assault & Batery on the body of James Stout    And the Same
was framed into a bill as foll. viz.t

the Lord prop.ry that now is for the body of Kent County
afd upon their Oath do present that William Pearce
of S.t pauls parish in the County afd Gent. the tenth day of May Anno Dom.
Seventeen hundred and thirty one at the parish afd in the County afd within
the Jurisdicion of this Court in and upon a Certain James Stout in the peace
of God and of the Said Lord prop.ry then and there being with force & Arms an
assault did make and him the Said James then and there did beat wound
and evilly Treat so that of his life it was much despaired and other harms
to him then and there to the great Damage of the Same James and
Contrary to the peace of the Said Lord prop.ry that now is his good Rule and
Government &c.a                                                T francis Cler. pac.

    And the afd William Pearce in his proper person cometh and Saith
that he is in no Sort guilty of the premisses above upon him imposed as by
the afd Indictment it is alledged and thereof he putteth himself upon the
Country                                                    W.m Pearce in p p.a
And he who followeth for the Lord prop.ry in like manner Saith he is
guilty                                                            T francis p Ld py

    But now afterwards came the afd W.m Pearce and Relinquishes the
Averment afd and withdraws his plea as above pleaded  And Now
Saith that he cannot gainsay the Indictment afd So as afd against
him brought nor but that he is guilty of the premisses above upon
him imposed as by the afd Indictment it is alledged and thereupon
Submits to the Court    Therefore it is Considered by the Justices
here to wit at the Court House in the Town of Chester in Said County
on the third tuesday in June being the fifteenth day of Said Month
the afd William Pearce pay the Sum of two hundred pounds of Tob.o
his use of the Lord prop.ry his heirs and Successors as a fine for
