Kent County fs The Jurors for the right honourable the Lord
proprietary that now is for the body of Kent County afd upon
their oath do present that William Crowder late of Shrewsbury
parish in the County afd Labourer the Servant of George Wilson
Gent the tenth day of Septemb.r Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred and thirty with
force and Arms at the parish afd in the County afd within the Jurisdicion of this Court
one India handerkerchiefe of the Value of Sixty pounds of Tobacco of the goods and
Chattles of a Certain Elizabeth Shaw then and there being found then and there did
feloniously Steal take and bear away Contrary to the peace of the Said Lord prop.ry
that now is his good rule and Government and against the form of the Act of Assembly
in Such Case made and provided &c.a                        T ffrancis Cler. pac.

        On the Same was endorsed as foll. viz.t M.r George Wilson & Margret
Gould Sworn as Evid.cs to the Grand Jury in the within bill of Indictm.t
    A true bill p     Roger Hicks foreman

        And the afd William Crowder in his proper pson cometh and Saith
that he is in no Sort guilty of the premisses above upon him imposed as by the afd
Indictm.t it is alledged and thereof he putteth himselfe upon the Country

    And who followeth for the Lord prop.ry in like manner Saith he is guilty

        Afterwards came the afd William and relinquishes his averm.t
afd And Saith that he Cannott gainsay the Indictm.t afd So as afd against
him brought nor but that he is guilty of the premisses above upon him
imposed as by the afd Indictm.t it is alledged  And Thereupon Submits to
the Court                    Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here to
wit  Att the Court house in the Town of Chest.r in Said County on the third tuesday
in Novemb.r being the Seventeenth day of Said Month Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred
and thirty  That the afd William Crowder Stands on the pillory for the Space of
half an hour and that afterwards he Receive at the publick whipping post
ten lashes well laid on his bare back till the blood appears as a punishm.t
for his afd Crime of felony according to the Confession afd  Also it is Considered
that the Said William Crowder pay the Sume of four hundred and twenty four
pounds of Tobacco Cost acccruing on the premisses afd to the officers of this Court

    It is also Considered by the Court here at this day to wit the day and year
last mentioned  That the Sherf of Kent County take the afd William Crowder into
his Custody and Execute the punishm.t in the Judgment afd Specified and afterwards
to bring him into Court againe  Off which precept to wit Joseph Young Gent high
Sherf of Kent County makes Return on the day & year last Said That he hath
Executed the punishm.t in the Judgment afd and also hath here the Said William
Crowder before the Court        Jo Young Sherf

    That on the ^Twenty^ fourth day of Sep.r last Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred and
thirty That Elizabeth Shaw Entered into Recognizance before George Wilson one
of his Ldships Justices of the peace for the afd County in the Sume of twenty pds
Sterling to be Leveyed &c.a for appear.c to this Court The Same Elizabeth Shaw
now at this Court app.rs in her prop.r pson and prays that the Same may be
discharged        The Same Recognizance as afd is by this Court here disch.d
