March Court 1729 her oath who was the begetter of her afd Child Thereupon being Sworn declared that a Certain Nathaniel Miller of Said County was the pson that did begett her afd Child as in the afd Indictm.t is mentioned Ordered by the Court here That Joseph Young Sherf of Kent County keep the afd Elizabeth in Safe Custody untill the fees afd Shall be Satisfied Ordered by the Court here that Tench Francis Clk of the Indictments of this Court Exhibit an Information against the afd Nathaniel Miller on acco of the Child afd
with a Certain Elizab^e^th Evans and then and their did beget a bastard Child on the body ^of^ her y.e Same Elizabeth to y.e high Displeasure of Almighty God to the ^Evill^ Example of all others in Such Case Offending Contrary to the peace of the said Lord prop.ry that now is her Good rule & Governmt & against y.e Form of y.e Act of Assembly in Such Case made & provided Test Eliz Evans T ffrancis Cler. pac. On the back of the preceeding Indictm.t was endorst as foll viz.t A Thornhill p Gid" Pearce foreman And the afd Charles Griffin in his proper person comes & Saith that he cannot gainsay the Indictm.t afd To us afd against him brought nor but that he is guilty of the premisses above upon him Imposed as by the afd Indictm.t it is alledged And thereupon Submits to the Court Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here to wit Att the Court House in the Town of Chester in S.d County on the third tuesday in March being the Seventeenth day of Said Month Anno Dom Seventeen hundred and twenty Nine That the Same Charles Griffin pay the Sume of Thirty Shillings as a fine for his Committing the Crime afd and also pay the Sume of two hundred and fourteen pounds of tobacco Cost accrueing on the premisses afd to the officers of this Court Ordered by the Court Elizabeth Evans enter into Recognizance w.th Surety as an Evid.c against the Same Charles Griffin Thereupon came into Court the afd Eliz.a Evans and Acknowledged herselfe Indebted to the Right Hon.rble the Lord prop.ry in the Sum of five pounds Sterl to be Leveyed on her goods and Chattles Lands and Tenements Conditionally That if She doth not make her appearance at any time Dureing this Courts Sitting to give Evid.c on his Said Lord Ships behalfe against the afd Charles Griffin wherewith She Acknowledges herselfe Content And at the Same time Wedge Crouch of Said Coty Comes into Court and Acknowledges himselfe Indebted to the Right Hon.rble the Lord prop.ry in the Sume of five pounds Sterl to be Leveyed on his goods and Chattles Lands and Tenements Conditionally That if She ^the S.d Elizabeth Evans^ doth not make her app.rance at any time during this Courts Sitting wherewith he |
