County," sub-title "Sheriff," be and the same are hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted with amendments so as to read as follows :

Section 533. The Sheriff of Montgomery County shall re-
ceive an annual salary of the sum of $2,500, to be paid him in
quarterly installments of $625 by the County Commissioners
of Montgomery County, and he shall be allowed the sum of
$3,500 annually, or so much thereof as the County Commis-
sioners may think proper, to be paid by him by the said County
Commissioners in quarterly installments for the expense of
the office, including clerk and necessary deputies to assist him
in the discharge of his duties; and the said County Commis-
sioners shall not pay said Sheriff for any services he may ren-
der in the discharge of his official duties any further or other
compensation, and shall not be liable in any way for any other
fee or compensation whatever to said Sheriff than as above
provided for the discharge of his official duties, except as fol-
lows: For every execution of the sentence of death by said

Sheriff upon any person convicted of a capital offense, they
shall pay him the sum of $300, and for carrying or conveying
any person or persons under sentence to any State or County
institutions, to or from any jail of any other county or the
jail or station house of Baltimore City or to or from any other
place of confinement beyond the limits of Montgomery County
under sentence or order of any authorized authority, the said
County Commissioners shall pay the said Sheriff his actual
carfare or actual costs of transportation, together with the ac-
tual costs of transportation of such person carried or conveyed
by him to or from the place above mentioned; itemized bill for
such expenses in all such cases shall be presented under oath
to said County Commissioners. Provided, however, that the
compensation of said Sheriff shall not exceed the sum of three
thousand dollars per annum for all services rendered after the
payment of the expenses incident to said office; that the Sheriff
shall on or before the 3rd Monday in January of each year
make out and render to the County Commissioners of Mont-
gomery County a detailed report of the receipts and disburse-
ments of his office, and that time shall pay over to the County
Commissioners any and all sums of money that may be in ex-
cess of the sum of three thousand dollars received by him as
salary or fees for services rendered after paying the salaries,
fees and expenses incident to the office, and if any surplus
shall be paid over to the County Commissioners by the Sheriff,
such sum or sums of monev shall be credited to the Police Fund
