zens who were former soldiers, sailors or marines from Mary-
land and who served in France during the recent war against
Germany and her Allies. The members of the Commission
shall be appointed by the Governor on or before the first day
of July, 1922, and shall serve without compensation, but shall
receive their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the per-
formance of the duties imposed upon them by this Act.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the Commission to visit the battle fields of France and as-
certain the points where Maryland troops were engaged during
the World War, and to designate the points where monuments
and markers shall be erected. The Commission shall also
determine the character and design of the monuments and
markers to be erected at each of aaid points, contract for the
manufacture and purchase of the same in the name of the State
of Maryland and perform all such other work necessary to erect
the memorials hereinbefore referred to.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the Commission
shall have authority and power to enter into such agreements
with the Government of France, either directly or through the
Government of the United States, as may be necessary to secure
permission for the erection of the monuments and markers at
the points selected by the Commission.

The Commission shall, on the completion of its work, submit
to the Governor a complete report of its proceedings, including
a statement as to locations where the monuments and markers
were erected, the cost of same, the expenses incurred, etc.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That the expenses of
the Commission and the cost of purchasing and erecting tle
monuments and markers be paid for out of the funds contained
in the Budget for 1922 for this purpose, the payments to be
made on proper vouchers approved by the Chairman and Sec-
retary of the Commission.

SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1922.

AN ACT authorizing the Police Commissioner of Baltimore
City to pay Ex-Sergeant James F. Ryan the pay of a re-
tired and pensioned Sergeant.
