town of Glen Echo or any structural change is made in any
existing building and if the prospective building or change of
building shall in anywise conflict with the building regulations
then in force in the town, it may refuse to grant such permits.
It shall prescribe fees for the issuance of such permits. That
buildings erected, altered, or raised, or converted in violation of
any of the provisions of this Act or the orders and regulations
made under the authority thereof are hereby declared to be com-
mon nuisances; and the owner or person in charge of or main-
taining any such buildings, upon conviction before the Mayor
of the town of Glen Echo or any justice of the peace in Mont-
gomery County shall be adjudged guilty of maintaining a
common nuisance, and shall be punished by a fine of not more
than dollars per day for each and every
day such nuisance shall be permitted to continue and shall
be required by said court to abate such nuisance.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1922.

CHAPTER 345.
AN ACT to provide for erecting suitable monuments and mark-
ers at the localities in France where Maryland Units were
engaged in battle and to provide for the appointment of a
Commission to secure and erect the said monuments and
markers.
WHEREAS, The State of Maryland desires to keep alive in
the memory of man the pride it cherishes for the heroic deeds
and achievements of the National Guard and other troops from
this State on the battle fields of France and to perpetuate the
memories of those who fell in the recent war against Germany
and her Allies; therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a Commission be and it is hereby created for the
purpose of securing and erecting markers and monuments of
suitable design and with appropriate inscriptions thereon, the
said markers and monuments to be erected on the battle fields
and at the localities in France where Maryland troops were
