each ward; to give notice of the time and place of holding reg-
istrations and elections; provided, tiowever, that not less than
seven days notice shall be given; to provide by ordinance or
such other, necessary and further regulations not inconsistent
with law, for the conduct of registrations and elections and for
the manner of making nominations for the offices of Mayor,
Councilman and treasurer of said town.

CHAPTER 271.
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 43 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland, title "Health," sub-title "Infectious Dis-
eases—Small Pox," to be known as Section 40A, and to
follow after Section 40 of said Article, providing that an
attending physician may exercise the power of a county
health officer to prevent the spread of diseases dangerous to
public health pending action in the premises by the county
health officer.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article 43
of the Annotated Code of Maryland, title "Health," sub-title
"Infectious Diseases—Small Pox," to be known as Section
40A, to follow after Section 40 of said Article and to read as
follows:
40A. Any physician called to attend a person suffering
with any disease embraced within the provisions of Section 40
of this Article shall have the power to exercise all the powers
conferred by said section upon the health officers of the several
counties to restrict or suppress such disease or diseases until
the health officer of the county wherein said disease may occur
shall investigate the matter as directed in Section 40. Said
attending physician may exercise said power without securing
the prior approval of the board of health of the county; but
said power shall be exercised only during the emergency exist-
ing until the county health officer shall make his investigation,
and immediately upon said investigation, the power hereby
conferred upon the attending physician shall cease. This sec-
tion shall not apply to Baltimore City.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1922.
