WHEREAS, The Lnited States Coast Guard, a military or-
ganization, has grown to a service of increasing importance to
the National Government in the performance of its manifold
duties, particularly the protection of lives and property of our
citizens, both in war and peace.
WHEREAS, H. R. No. 10734, now before the Congress of the
L'nited States, properly includes the Coast Guard in its pro-
visions; be it
Resolved, therefore, That we, the Senate of the State of
Maryland and the House of Delegates of the State of Mary-
laud, in joint session, request the Congress of the United States
assembled at Washington to promptly pass H. R. No. 10734;
and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this Joint Resolution be transmitted
To the Congress of the United States.

WHEREAS, the present system of maintaining the County roads
in Maryland is not only expensive but unsatisfactory to
the taxpayers, therefore,
Be it Resolved, by the General Assembly of Maryland.
That the said Roads Commission be and it is hereby directed
to secure information from the County Commissioners, and
the County Treasurers of each County in Maryland, as to
the actual amount of money that has been expended for
the past ten years, by the County Commissioners for the
maintenance of County roads, and
Be it further resolved, that the County Commissioners
and the County Treasurers be and they are hereby direct-
ed to furnish such information to said State Roads Com-
mission, within six months after the passage of this resolu-
tion, and
Be it further resolved, that the said State Roads Com-
mission be and it is hereby directed to recommend to the
Governor within twelve months after such information has
been received a plan for improving the County roads of
Maryland, and
