CHRONOLOGICAL EVENTS. 145

made out to his son and heit, Cecilius,
Baron of Baltimore, and bears date the 29th
June 1632,

Lord Baltimore soon after sent out his
brother, Leonard Calvert, Esq. with about
two hundred gentlemen, with their adhe-
rents, as a colony to Maryland, who arrive
at Point Comfort, in the Chesapeake Bay,
on the 24th February 1633, and in a few
days proceed up the Potowmack River,
where they enter into a treaty and purchase
an Indian town called YAO-COMOCO,—
which they took possession of, and named
ST. MARY'S, and where the seat of govern-
ment was continued until the year 1694
when it was removed to Annapolis.

1632. The province of Maryland granted by
Charles I. to Lord Baltimore.

1635 Connecticut, settled by Mr. Senwick,
from Massachusetts.

1645. Claiborne raised a rebellion, and drove
Calvert, from the province of Maryland.

1652. Parliament by force assumed the govern-
ment of Maryland, and entrusted it to com-
missioners.

1656. A second insurrection, headed by Fen-
dal.

1658. The commissioners surrendered the go-
vernment to Fendal.

1662. Lord Baltimore resumes the govern-
ment.
