NOVEMBER. LAWS OF M A R Y L A N D,

CHAP.

X.

two thousand dollars, on their giving bond to the state of Maryland, to be applied to the uses afore-
said; therefore,

A scheme may
be proposed,
&c.

II. BE JT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for the
trustees of said church, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme of a lottery to raise such sum
of money as may be necessary, not exceeding two thousand dollars, and to sell and dispose of the
tickets therein; provided said trustees, or a majority of them, before the sale or disposal of any
ticket or tickets in said lottery, give bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of four thousand
dollars, conditioned that they will well and truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom,
within six months after the drawing thereof, as will pay the fortunate adventurers for prizes drawn
by them in said lottery, and the residue to the repairing of said church, creeling a parsonage-house,
and the defraying the necessary expences incurred in the management of said lottery.

Bond to be
lodged, &c.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall be lodged in the cterk's office of Caecil coun-
ty, to be there recorded, and upon such bond, or an office copy thereof, suit or suits may be insti-
tuted against the obligors therein, or any of them, or their or any of their legal representatives, for
any breach or non-compliance with the condition of the same.

CHAP. XL

Right vested,
&c.

An ACT for the relief of Eleanor Marshall, of Frederick county.

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That all right, title and estate, of the state
of Maryland, of, in and to, ten lots of land lying in Frederick county and in Frederick- town,
or in an addition to Frederick-town, and which were heretofore conveyed to James Marshall, de-
ceased, by two several deeds, one from Frederick Boogher to him, the said James Marshall, bearing
date on or about the twenty-sixth day of April, eighteen hundred and two, and the other from Fre-
derick Boogher, and Christina his wife, and Margaret Roemer, bearing date on or about the twen-
tieth day of March, eighteen hundred and two and both recorded among the land records of Frede-
rick county court, be and the same is hereby vested in, and released to, said Eleanor Marshall, and
her heirs, in fee-simple; provided always, that nothing in this act contained shall in any manner de-
feat any right, title or ctaim, to the said property, or any part thereof, acquired or prosecuted by
any person or persons whatsoever before the passage of this act

Preamble,

An ACT for the benefit of William M'Grigor, of Worcester county

WHEREAS William M'Grigor, a resident of Worcester county, and now a citizen of the
United States, hath represented to this general assembly, that before he became naturalized
be purchased some real property in Worcester county, and obtained deeds of conveyance for the
same: And whereas some doubts have arisen as to the validity of the titles of the said William
M'Grigor, in as much as conveyances thereof were made before he was naturalized; therefore,

Titles made,
perfect, &c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the titles of the said William
M'Grigor to the said real property, shall be and the same are hereby made as perfect and complete,
to all intents and purposes, as if the said William M'Grigor had been naturalized agreeablv to the
laws of the United States before the said purchases were made, any law of this state to the contrary
notwithstanding; provided always, that nothing in this act contained shall in any manner defeat or
affect any right, title or ctaim, to the said property, or any part thereof, acquired or prosecuted by
any person or persons whatever before the passage of this act.

CHAP. XIII.

An ACT authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money to finish the
baptist frame meeting-house in Baltimore county.

Preamble,

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of a number of the in-
habitants of Baltimore county, that they have erected a frame building, about twenty miles
from the city of Baltimore, and near the main road leading from thence to M'Ailister's-town, com-
in only called the Baptist Frame Meeting-house, and free for all religious societies occasionally as a
house of worship, but not having it in their power to raise, by voluntary contributions, a sufficient
sum to finish the said house of worship, have prayed that a law may pass authorising a lottery to
raise the necessary sum to finish the same; therefore

A scheme may
be proposed,

&c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Na-
than Cromwell, Abraham Cole, junior, Amon Butler, junior, Thomas Lemmon and John Cockey.
