a law may pass authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money, not exceeding fifteen hundred dollars,
for the purpose of finishing said church; therefore,

CHAP,
VIII.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Sa-
muel Miller, Robert Evans, Thomas Williams, David Patten, David Cummings, James Sims, John
Porter and Jonathan Hartshorn, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme of a lottery for raising
such sum of money as they, or a majority of them, shall consider sufficient to complete said church,
not exceeding fifteen hundred dollars, and to sell and dispose of the tickets thereof; provided the
said Samuel Miller, Robert Evans, Thomas Williams, David Patten, Darvid Cummings, James
Sims, John Porter and Jonathan Hartshorn, or a majority of them, who undertake to act, under this
law, shall, before the sale or disposal of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, give their bond to the
state of Maryland, in the penalty of three thousand dollars, conditioned that they will well and
truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom, within six months after the drawing of said
lottery shall be finished, as shall satisfy the fortunate adventurers for prizes drawn by them, and the
residue to the finishing of said building, after deducting the necessary expences incurred in drawing
said lottery.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall be lodged in the cterk's office of Caecil coun-
ty, to be there recorded, and upon such bond, or an office copy thereof, suit or suits may be insti-
tuted for any breach or non-compliance with the condition thereof.

Bond to be
lodged, &c.

An ACT authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money for the
purpose of defraying the expence accrued in building a house of
worship in the town of Emmitsburgh, in Frederick county.

Passed 31st of
Dec. 1803.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of sundry inhabitants of
the town of Emmitsburgh, in Frederick county, and its vicinity, that the lutherans and
presbyterians have united and built a house of worship sufficiently large to accommodate both con-
gregations alternately, called Eli's Church, that their funds are insufficient to pay the expence ac-
crued, for building the same, and have prayed that an act may pass authorising a lottery to raise a
sum of money, not exceeding fifteen hundred dollars, for the purpose of defraying the expence ac-
crued in finishing said church; therefore,

Nunemaker, Jacob Troxel, Lewis Morter, Peter Troxel and John Hoover, or a majority of them,
to propose a scheme of a lottery for raising such sum of money as they, or a majority of them, shall
consider sufficient to defray the expence accrued for building said church, not exceeding fifteen hun-
dred dollars, and to sell and dispose of the tickets thereof; provided the said Philip Nunemaker,

a church, and erect a parsonage-house, in Caecil county.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of the trustees of the
Rock presbyterian church, in Cecil county, that said church is much out of repair, and will
soon be in a ruinous state, unless covered with a new roof, that other repairs are necessary, and
that they are desirous of building a parsonage-house; that the congregation is greatly diminish-
ed in numbers, and that their funds are insufficient for the above-mentioned purposes, and have pray-
ed that a law may pass authorising a lottery to enable them to raise a sum of money, not exceeding
