pre-emption And whereas, at the time the land was sold, the said Sterrett, and others, had leases on the same
and, by management, a certain James G. Heron became the purchaser, at and for the sum of three pounds two
shillings and six-pence per acre; that at the time he purchased it was supposed a ctear fee-simple estate was sold:
And whereas the said James G. Heron, on making the aforesaid statement appear, obtained a release of the con-
tract aforesaid, and the same land was afterwards, by the state's agent, sold to the said Sterrett, and others, for
the price James G. Heron agreed to give for the same, and that the agent, at the time of the contract, promised
the said Sterrett, and others, that if it should appear that they, as settlers, were entitled to the pre-emption,
that they should have it on the same terms upon which other lands of said manor were sold, and it appears that
none of the said lands sold for more than twenty shillings per acre; RESOLVED, That on the said Sterrett,
and the other purchasers of said land, paying to the state the full amount of the purchase money, calculating
the same at twenty shillings per acre, with legal interest on the same, together with all costs of suits brought
on bonds executed by them to the state for said purchase, that said bonds be and the same are hereby cancelled,
and all proceedings at law thereon stayed; and that the register of the land-office be and he is hereby authorised
and empowered to issue patents to the purchasers of said lands, or to the heirs of any deceased purchasers, re-
spectively, for said land, on payment of the fees of office.

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay to Sarah Jones, or her order, the sum of Five pounds
current money of Maryland.

RESOLVED, That the governor and council be and they are hereby requested to take the most speedy and ef-
fectual measures for the final adjustment and liquidation of the ctaim of this state against the United States,
for arms, accoutrements and military stores, furnished during the western expedition in the year one thousand
seven hundred and ninety-four, and the governor and council are hereby authorised and empowered to make such
compromise with the United States as may appear to them most conducive to the interest of this state, by re-
ceiving any other species of arms, accoutrements or military stores, In lieu of those that were loaned, or by re-
ceiving an equivalent in money.

RESOLVED, That all further proceedings against the securities of Dennis Griffith be suspended until the first
day of January, eighteen hundred and six, provided the said securities shall pay annually, during the said .sus-
pension, the interest accruing on the debt.

RESOLVED, That the governor and council be and they are hereby authorised and requested to make
application for and on behalf of this state to the president of the United States, in order to obtain the inter-
ference and assistance of the government of the United States in the recovery of the bank and other stock of
this state In the public funds of Great-Britain,

RESOLVED, That the governor and council be and they are hereby fully authorised and empowered to concert
such measures with the president of the United States, and to agree to all such instructions, terms and condi-
tions, for and on behalf of this state, as shall appear to the president of the United States and the executive
of this state most likely to conduce to the speedy and effectual securing and recovering the stock of this state
in the funds of Great-Britain, for the use of this state.

RESOLVED, That Peregrine Briscoe, having nearly paid the balance of principal and interest of six per cent,
en the sums due from him to the state as sheriff, be and he is hereby released from the nine per cent, additional
interest incurred by non-payment of the principal and interest within the time limitted by law, upon his paying
the balance due by him, together with six per cent, interest, oa or before the first day of March next.

RESOLVED, That the case of Robert Amos, of Harford county, collector of the fund tax in seventeen hun-
dred and eighty-three and seventeen hundred and eighty-five, be and the same is hereby referred to the auditor
of the state for examination and adjustment, who is hereby required to make report thereon to the next session
of assembly.

Whereas the compensation allowed to the trustee, under the act respecting the creditors and debtors of this
state, passed at November session, one thousand seven hundred and ninety, after the first year, is inadequate
to the services required of him, RESOLVED, That the said trustee shall be entitled to receive, as an additional
compensation for his services for the present year, the sum of two hundred dollars.

RESOLVED, That the governor, by and with the advice and consent of the council, be and he is hereby au-
thorised and requested to appoint three commissioners on the part of the state of Maryland, to meet such com-
missioner or commissioners as may be appointed on the part of the state of Pennsylvania, and also on the part
of the Susquehanna canal company, at such time and place as may mutually be agreed upon, to digest and pre-
pare; such plan or compact for the further and effectual improvement of the navigation of the river Susquehanna
