R E S O L U T I O N S,
Whereas it is represented to this general assembly, that a certain mulatto slave, called and known by the
name of Peter White, who had for a considerable time been a general disturber of the peace and security of
the good citizens of Queen-Anne's and other counties of this state, and whose outrages had excited such gene-
ral terror as to induce the executive of this state to offer a considerable reward for apprehending him, was ar-
rested in Caroline county, and at October term, eighteen hundred and one, was convicted in Caroline county
court of a capital crime, for which he was afterwards executed pursuant to his sentence: And whereas the sum
of seventy-five pounds current money, the valuation of the said slave, has been levied on Caroline county for the
use of a certain Henry Carlton, of the stale of Georgia, whose property he was at the time of his conviction;
therefore RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the eastern shore pay to the order of the levy court of Caroline
county the sura of seventy-five pounds current money, to be applied towards defraying the county charges of
said county.
RESOLVED, That John Harwood, Joseph Martin, Thomas and Mary Dudley, Tristram Needles, Henry Johnson
and William Dawson, be and they are hereby released from the payment of the nine per cent, with which they
are chargeable as the sureties and representatives of sureties of Richard Johns, late sheriff of Talbot county,
they having paid and satisfied the treasurer of the eastern shore the whole of the monies due from them, with
six per cent, thereon.
RESOLVED, That all proceedings against James O'Bryan, executor of James O'Bryan, late of Queen-Anne's coun-
ty, deceased, on judgments obtained against him in the general court for the eastern shore of Maryland at Sep-
tember term, eighteen hundred and one, as executor of the said James O'Bryan, and also as administrator of Tho-
mas O'Bryan, deceased, for a balance due to the state of Maryland, be and they are hereby suspended until the
sixteenth day of October, eighteen hundred and four, and also that he, the said James O'Bryan, be and he is hereby
released from the payment of nine per cent, per annum of the fifteen per cent, interest chargeable on the principal
of the balance due to the state, on condition only that he, the said James O'Bryan, shall punctually pay to the
treasurer of the eastern shore, on or before the sixteenth day of October, eighteen hundred and three, one third
of the principal of the said balance due to the state, with interest at six per cent, per annum, which shall then
have accrued on the whole debt, together with all costs on all and every judgments or judgment which shall have
been obtained against him for the balance due to the state as aforesaid, and the remaining two thirds of the said
balance, with interest thereon at six per cent, on or before the sixteenth day of October, eighteen hundred and
four; provided nevertheless, that the judgment aforesaid shall continue and be in full force, notwithstanding the
suspension of proceedings directed by this resolution, and that if the said James O'Bryan shall fail in either of the
said payments, he shall thereby forfeit the benefit of this resolution, and shall be liable to be proceeded against
immediately for.the whole of the said debt and costs, and the fifteen per cent, interest now payable thereon.
RESOLVED, That the judge of the land-office be and he is hereby authorised and empowered to examine, in a
nummary way, the circumstances of a public sale made of a certain tract or parcel of land lying in Harford
county, called The Meadows, or Joshua's Meadows, by two of the executors of William Amos, deceased, and
two trustees appointed by the orphans court of Harford county, which land was directed to be sold by the last
will of the said William Amos for the payment of his debts, at which public sale a certain Charles Baker be-
came the purchaser, who hath since conveyed to the said Thomas Amos, and if, on such examination, the judge
of the land-office shall be of opinion that the said sale was fair, and not fraudulent, and not repugnant to the
interest of a majority of the persons concerned, although made without sufficient legal authority, he is hereby
authorised and empowered to order a patent to issue to the said Thomas Amos far said land, upon the composi-
tion money being paid by said Amos,
RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby directed to cancel the bond given by
Martha Howard, of Anne-Arundel county, to the state of Maryland, upon the said Martha Howard's paying to
the state such sum of money, in addition to what has already been paid, as will amount to the sum of £ 333 15 9,
the principal originally due; provided, that if the said payment shall not be made on or before the 1st day of
January, in the year 1804, then the said bond to remain in full force.
RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay to Philip Reed, of Kent county, or order, the sum
of fifty pounds five shillings and one penny.
RESOLVED, That after judgments are obtained on the bonds passed by James B. Sulivane, and his securities,
to the state, for the purchase money of lots number fourteen and fifteen of the Choptank Indian lands, in Dor-
chester county, all further proceedings be suspended until the first day of March, eighteen hundred and four,
Whereas it appears that John Sterrett, and others, were possessors of a tract of land in Csecil county, called
The Widow's Lot, within the lines of New Cennaught Manor, and that as possessors they were entitled to the
pre-emption
