749 Katherine Pursel being presented by the Grand Jury in March last for haveing a Bastard Child Command was therfore given to the Sheerif of Kent County the 26.th day of March Anno Dom 1697 to cause the sd Katherine Pursel soe that she be and appeare before his Maj.ties Justices att the Next Court to Answer &c.a Att which Court viz this present day came Capt Edward Sweatnam his sheerif of sd County and made Returne of the said venire in these following Words sumoned Edw Sweatnam sheft And the said Katherine Pursell now appearing and being sworne to Answer such questions as by this Court should be proposed to her upon her Oath declares Thomas Baazier to be the Father of her Bastard Child Ordered by this Court that the sheerif take the said Katherine Pursell into his Custody and Give her Fifteene lashes well laid on her bare back warr.t Issued out to the sheerif pursuant to the above order Simon Wilmer Clk Grand Jury returne and being called over declare they have no p.rsentm.ts but Render no Reasons why they will not signe the Paper Relateing to Pennsilvania Entertaining Privateers &c.a The Court orders Grand Jury Two hundred poundes of Tobaccoe Court adjournes untill To Morrow seaven a Clock |
