54 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1808.

A petition from John Murray, of Dorchester county, praying a confirmation of his title to real property
therein mentioned, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Dennis, Mr. Frazier and Mr. Gale, to consider
and report thereon.

The additional supplement to the act to incorporate a company for erecting a bridge over Chester river, was
read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

The following resolution was read. the first and second time by especial order, unanimously assented to, and
sent to the senate by the clerk.

RESOLVED, That the executive of this state be and they are hereby authorised and empowered, to purchase
of the United States, for the use of the state of Maryland, four thousand stand of arms, of Whitney's manu-
facture, at the price of ten dollars per stand, to be paid out of any unappropriated money in the treasury of the
western shore, and the executive are hereby authorised to draw on the treasury lor the same.

On motion. Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled. An act authorising William Moffitt, late sheriff and col-
lector or Kent county, to complete his collection. ORDERED, That Mr. Hopper, Mr. Welch and Mr. Brice,
be a committee to prepare and bring in the sums.

Mr. Hopper, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the said bill; which was read the first time and
ordered to lie on the table.

A petition from Michael M'Can, an old soldier, praying some relief, was preferred, read, and referred to
Mr Chapman, Mr. Randall and Mr. Frazier, to consider and report thereon.

The clerk of the senate delivers the bill annulling the marriage of John C. Hutton and Elizabeth Hatton, of
Somerset county, the bill granting leave to the trustees of Lower West Nottingham congregation, in Caecil
county, and their successors, to receive a deed or deeds For and hold the lands therein mentioned, the bill au-
thorising James Cochran to complete his collection, the bill for the benefit of Daniel Burch, of Worcester coun-
ty, the supplement to an act, entitled. An act to lay out and straighten a road in Baltimore county, the bill for
the benefit of the corporation of the Roman catholic clergymen, the bill to extend further the powers of the
commissioners of Elizabeth town, in Washington county the bill to open and establish a road from near the old
glass works called New Bremen, in Frederick county, to intersect the Baltimore and Frederick turnpike road,
at the town of New-Market, in the said county, the bill to lay out and straighten a road in Baltemore county,
the bill authorising the levy court of Washington county to assess and levy a sum of money fur the purposes
therein mentioned, the bill to lay out and open two public roads in Caecil county, and the bill for the support of
Anne Rickets; severally endorsed, " will pass. " Ordered to be engrossed. The further additional supplement
to the act, entitled, An act for marking and bounding lands, and the bill authorising the levy court of Prince-
George's county to assess and levy on the assessable property of said county a sum of money for the purposes
therein mentioned, severally endorsed, " will pass with the proposed amendment; " which amendments were read.
The report on the petition of Robert C. Stone, and others, was read the second time, and the question put,
That the house concur therewith, and assent to the resolution therein contained? Resolved in the affirmative.

Mr. Scott, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A further supplement to the act, en-
titled, An act relating to servants and slaves; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Cottman, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled. An act to enlarge the powers of
the trustees of the poor of Somerset county; which was read the first and second time by especial order, and

passed.

Mr. Randall, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act authorising the levy court
of Baltimore county to appoint commissioners, to lay out a road therein mentioned; which was read the first
time and ordered to lie on the table.

The report on the petition of John Williams, of Worcester county, was read the second time, and the reso-
lution therein contained assented to.

Mr. Welch, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled. An act to prevent the erection of
huckster's booths near the places and during the times of Divine worship; which was read the first time and or-
dered to lie on the table.

A petition from the president and directors of the Patowmack company, praying that femes-covert may be au-
thorised to transfer shares in said company, and that they may be authorised to pass by-laws for the regulation
of boats in said river, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. J. H. Thomas, Mr. Baer and Mr. J. Thomas,
to consider and report thereon.

Mr. M'Mahon, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A further supplement to an act,
entitled. An act for the valuation of real and personal property within this state; which was read the first time
and ordered tu lie on the table.

The bill annulling the marriage of William Hines, and Mary his wife, of Washington county, was read the
second time, and the question put, Shall the said bill pass? The yeas and nays being required, appeared as fol-
low:
