The report on the memorial of the heirs of Jean Babtiste Chirac was read the second time, and, on motion,
the question put, That the same be recommitted for amendment? Resolved in the affirmative.
ORDERED, That Mr. Stone be excused from serving on the said committee, and that Mr. T. B. Dorsey act in
his place.
Oh the second reading of the resolution relative to the appointment of a director in the Bank of Baltimore,
the question was put, That the word " Tuesday" be stricken out? Resolved in the affirmative.
The question was then put, That the word "immediately" be inserted in lieu thereof? Resolved in the
affirmative.
The question was then put, That the house assent to the same? Resolved in the affirmative.
The house proceeded to ballot for a director on the part of this state in the Bank of Baltimore; the ballots
being deposited in the ballot box, the gentlemen named to strike retired, and after sometime returned and re-
ported, that Edward Johnson was elected. Whereupon
RESOLVED, That Edward Johnson be, and he is hereby declared to be, the director on the part of this state
for the ensuing year in the Bank of Baltimore.
The clerk of the senate delivers the resolution in favour of Richard Choate, endorsed, " assented to. " And
the bill for the relief of Henry Hawkins Young, of Montgomery county, the bill to lay out a certain road in
Harford county, and the bill for the benefit of Alfred Jones, of Queen-Anne's county, severally endorsed,
"will pass. " Ordered to be engrossed.
Mr. Seth, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the bill, entitled, An act to alter all such parts of the
constitution and form of government as relate to the residence of voters, ?s amended; which was. read the first
time and ordered to lie on the table.
Mr. Harryman, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act annulling the marriage of
Edward Welch and Prudence Welch, of Baltimore county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on
the table.
Mr. Streett, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:
Whereas the auditor-general was directed, by a resolution passed at the last session of the general assembly,
to examine and report to the present general assembly what sum of money, if any, is due to William Amos,
senior, of Harford county, on account of a claim in behalf of the state, at the instance of the late intendant,
to settle the lines of a tract of land lying in Harford county, called The Grove, whereby the state has been, ma-
terially benefitted: And whereas the auditor-general has reported, favourable, the petitioner having produced
sufficient vouchers to substantiate his claim to the satisfaction of the auditor, and your committee being of opi-
nion that the prayer of the petitioner is reasonable; therefore RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western
shore credit the bond of Abraham Jarrett, William Amos, junior, and Thomas Caldwell, to the state of Mary-
land, with the sum of one hundred and five pounds two shillings and eleven-pence, and pay to William Amos,
senior, of Harford county, or order, the sum of nine pounds fourteen shillings and eleven-pence halfpenny, out
of any unappropriated money in the treasury.
Which was read the first and second time by especial order, and the resolution therein contained assented to.
The bill to extend Centre-street in the northern precincts in the city of Baltimore, and to build a bridge, there-
in across Jones's Falls, was read the second time and passed.
A petition from John Lynch, of Kent county, stating that he has been a soldier, and praying a pension, was
preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Welch, Mr. Winder and Mr. Gale, of Kent, to consider and report thereon.
Mr. Callis, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act authorising Alexis Boone,
late sheriff of Prince-George's county, to complete his collection; which was read the first time and ordered to
lie on the table.
A petition from Samuel Thomas, James Colston and Benjamin Binny, executor of Charles W. Binny, deceased,
of Talbot county, praying that they may be authorised to complete the collections of Philemon Willis, late sheriff,
was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Kerr, Mr. P. Spencer and Mr. Seth, to consider and report thereon.
Mr. J. Williams, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:
THE committee appointed on the petition of Molly Walker, of Worcester county, beg leave to report, that
they have taken the tame into consideration, and are of opinion that the prayer of the petitioner is unreason-
able, and ought not to be granted, and that the petitioner have leave therefore to withdraw her petition. All
which is submitted.
