68 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1806.

A petition from Amos Scott, of Montgomery county, praying a special act of insolvency, was preferred,

read, and referred to the committee appointed on petitions of a similar nature.

Mr. Chapman has leave of absence.

Mr. Ward, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to prevent duelling.; which
was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

A petition from the representatives of Jean Baptiste Chirac, praying the repeal of a law, was preferred, read,
and referred to Mr. Aisquith, Mr. Dennis, Mr. Kerr, Mr. R. Steuart and Mr. Winder, to consider and report
thereon.

The bill for the benefit of the congregation of Salem's church, in Washington county, was read the second
time, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

The bill to alter the time of holding the county court in Worcester county, was read the second time, passed,
and sent to the senate by the clerk.

Mr. Pearce, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the regulation of officers
fees; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

ORDERED, That the same have a second reading on Wednesday the 31st instant.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to ascertain and regulate anew the fees of attor-
nies and practitioners of the law in the county courts of this state. ORDERED, That Mr. Pearce, Mr. W. H.
Brown and Mr. Dennis, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

The bill to enlarge the power of the trustees of the poor of Montgomery county, was read the second time,
passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk,

On motion. Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, A supplement to an act entitled. An act to establish
permanent salaries for the judges of the six judicial districts in this state. ORDERED, That Mr. Bowles, Mr.
Pearce, Mr. Hawkins, Mr. W. H. Brown and Mr. Little, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

The house proceeded to the second reading of the bill for the extension of the. Falls turnpike road towards
the line of the state of Pennsylvania, and the question was put, That the further consideration of the same be
referred to the first day of June next. The yeas and nays being required, appeared s follow:

So it was resolved in the affirmative.
The bill for the relief of the sheriff's of the several counties of this state, was read the second time, and, on
motion, ORDERED, That the same be recommitted tor amendment.

Mr. Frisby, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, Ah act to condemn a piece of ground
in Kent county for the purposes therein mentioned; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the
table.

Mr. Pearce, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled. An act to ascertain and regulate
anew the fees of attornies and practitioners of the law in the county courts of this state; which was read the
first time and ordered to lie on the table.

ORDERED, That the supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the advancement of justice., be recommitted
for amendment.

A petition from Thomas Kell, praying an alteration in the direction of a certain road, was preferred, read,
and referred to Mr. Harryman, Mr. M. Brown and Mr. Forwood, to consider and report thereon.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, A supplement to the act, entitled, An act for the esta-
blishment and regulation of levy courts in the several counties of this state. ORDERED, That Mr. Kuhn, Mr.
Waters and Mr. Little, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

The house proceeded to the second reading of the report of the committee on the memorial of the governors
and directors of the Susquehanna canal company, and the question was put, That the house assent to the reso-
lutions therein contained? Determined in the negative.

Mr. Street, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to provide for the election of
commissioners by the people to settle and ascertain the public taxes of --- counties, and for other pur-
poses; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Sudler, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act authorising the levy courts
of Queen-Anne's and Caroline counties to levy a sum of money for building a bridge over Tuckahoe creek;
which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Hall, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act authorising the levy courts of
Anne-Arundel, Prince-George's and Montgomery counties, to levy a sum of money for building a bridge over
