the Patuxent river, at or near a mill the property of John Crow; which was read the first and second time by
especial order and the question put, That the word "Montgomery" be stricken out of the title thereof? Re-
solved in the affirmative.

On motion, the question was then put, That the said bill be referred to the first day of June next? Resolved
in the affirmative.

On motion. Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, A supplement to an act, entitled, An act to authorise a
lottery or lotteries to raise a sum of money for the improvement of the navigation of the river Susquehanna.
ORDERED, That Mr. Aisquith, Mr. R. Steuart and Mr. Porter, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

Mr. Denny, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the
advancement of justice, as amended; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, A supplement to an act respecting the indenting of deeds,
ORDERED, That Mr. Bruce, Mr. Winder, Mr. Blakistone, Mr. Shaaff and Mr. Watts, be a committee to pre-
pare and bring in the same.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to alter and change the time f holding the court
of oyer and terminer and general gaol delivery in Baltimore county. ORDERED, That Mr. Harryman, Mr.
Watt, Mr. Little, Mr. Aisquith and Mr. R. Steuart, be a committee to prepare and being in the same.

The following order was read.

Whereas the clerk of the house of delegates devoted much of his time, during the course of the last summer,
in arranging the papers belonging to this house, and placing them in a decent and alphabetical order, which con-
stituted no part of his official duty, but cost him much labour and trouble: And whereas it is but just and read
sonable that the said clerk should receive some compensation for his trouble in arranging the same; therefore,
ORDERED, That the committee of claims allow to the said clerk, for his trouble in arranging the same, the sum
of —— dollars, to be placed on the journal of accounts.

The report of the committee on the petition of James Laurence, of Talbot county, was read the second time,
and the resolution therein contained assented to.

The house proceeded to the second reading of the bill to prohibit the emigration of free negroes into this
State, and, on motion, the question was put, That the further consideration of the same be referred to the first
day of June next f The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:

FRIDAY, December 26, 1806.

THE house met. Present the same members as on Wednesday, except Mr. Chapman. The proceedings
of Wednesday were read.

The bill to prohibit the emigration of free negroes into this state, and the resolution in favour of James Lau-
rence, were sent to the senate of the clerk.

The order relative to the payment of the members of the legislature for one day's attendance last session,
was read the second time and assented to.

The clerk of the senate delivers the resolutions relative to bills of exchange, endorsed " assented to. " The
resolution in favour of Edward Reynolds, endorsed "dissented from. " The further supplement to the act, en-
titled, An act for erecting a village at Choptank bridge, in Caroline county, and for other purposes therein men-
tioned, the further additional supplement to an act, entitled, An act relating to public roads in this state, and
