So it was resolved in the affirmative.

ORDERED, That Mr. Ennalls, Mr. Lloyd, Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Bayly and Mr. Jump, be a committee to
prepare and bring in the same.

The bill to authorise and empower the levy court of Baltimore county to assess and levy a sum of money for
the purpose therein mentioned, was read the second time and passed.

The bill, entitled, An act to continue the act therein mentioned, was read the second time and passed.

The clerk of the senate delivers the bill to repeal the second section of an act, entitled, An act to enlarge
further the powers of the trustees of the poor in the several counties therein mentioned, endorsed, " will pass. "
Ordered to be engrossed. And the resolutions in favour of John B. Colvin, of Frederick county, endorsed,
" assented to. "

Mr. Van-Horn, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the encouragement of
learning in this state, and for other purposes therein mentioned; which was read the first time and ordered to
lie on the table.

On motion, ORDERED, That the said bill have a second reading on Wednesday the 18th instant.

Mr. Merriken, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to prevent persons erect-
ing booths and retailing spirituous liquors within one mile of the places of religious worship of the people called
Methodists in Anne-Arundel county, Baltimore county, Montgomery county, Allegany county, Calvert county,
Frederick county, Queen-Anne's county, Prince-George's county and Harford county; which was read the first
time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Ogden, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Thomas Meredith, devisee of Benjamin Meredith, of
Baltimore county, having considered the same, submit the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby directed to pay to Thomas Meredith,

or his order, the sum of three pounds seventeen shillings and six-pence, with interest thereon from the seven-
teenth day of September, seventeen hundred and eighty-five, being an overpayment on his purchase for confis-
cated property.

Mr. Van-Horn, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the benefit of Grafton
Duvall, of Prince-George's county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.
Mr. Ayres appears in the house.

A petition from John Cropper, of Dorchester county, praying a law may pass authorising him, as register of
wills for said county, to record certain papers heretofore omitted to be recorded, was preferred, read, and re-
ferred to Mr. Ennalls, Mr. Ward and Mr. Watts, to consider and report thereon.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to repeal an act, entitled, A supplement to an
act, entitled, An act for regulating the mode of staying execution, and repealing the acts of assembly therein
mentioned, and for other purposes. ORDERED, That Mr. M'Pherson, Mr. Watts and Mr. Montgomery, be a
committee to prepare and bring in the same.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act relating to, and authorising the collection of, the
county charges in Allegany county. ORDERED, That Mr. Bruce, Mr. Rizer and Mr. Cresap, be a committee
to prepare and bring in the same.

Mr. Ringgold and Mr. Ellicott have leave of absence for a few days.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An additional supplement to an act, entitled, An act for
the relief of insolvent debtors. ORDERED, That Mr. Bruce, Mr. Tomlinson, Mr. Cresap, Mr. Ogden and
Mr. Stephen, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

Mr. Stephen, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the relief of John R.
Caldwell, an insolvent debtor, of the city of Baltimore; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the
table.
