Mary Buryman
Kent County fs.t The Jurors for the right Honourable
the Lord prop.ry that now is for the body of Kent
County afd upon their Oath do psent that Mary
Buryman late of S.t pauls parish in the County afd
Spinster the tenth Day of July Anno Dom Seventeen hundred twenty &
Seven at the Parish afd in the County afd within the Jurisdiction of this
Court did Committ fornication with a Certain pson and the Jurors afd likewise
did psent the same with [illegible] pson then & there to have Carnall knowledge
of her body & to begett then & there a bastard Child on the body
of the same Mary to the Heigh Displeasure of Almighty God & to
the Evill Examples of All others for which Such Case afd [illegible]
Contrary to the Peace of the said Lord prop.ry thereupon is his
good rule & Governm.t & against the form of the Act of Assemby
In that Case made & provided

            Frederick Hanson

    On the Back of the preceeding Indictm.t was as foll.s viz.t
                                    Billa Vera        Henry Evans foreman

    And the afd Mary Buryman in her pper pson Comes & Saith
that She Cannot gainsay the Indictment afd so as afd against her brought
no but that She is guilty of the psses above upon her Imposed as
by the afd Indictment it is alleadged & thereupon Submits to the
Court

    Therefore it Is Considered by the Justices here to wit at the
Court house in the town of Chester in said County the ninteenth
Day of March Anno Dom.1727 that the afd Mary Buryman
receive at the Publick whiping Post fifteen Lashes well laid on
her bear back untill the blood appear as a Punishment for her
afd Crime of Committing fornication in form afd Confest also it is
Considered that She pay the Sum of three hundred & five pounds of
Tobacco Costs Accrueing on the psses afd to y.e officers of this Court
It also Considr'd by the Court here at this Day to wit the Day & year
afd that the Sherf of K.t Co.ty take her the said Mary into his Costody
& Execute the Punishment in the Judgm.t afd Specified & afterward
to bring her into Court again of w.ch s.d Precept the s.d Sherf to wit John
Gresham Gentl Heigh Sherf of K.t Co.ty makes return thereof
